directx requirement conflict ?
directx requirement conflict ?
Hmm. I have two online games, this being one of them.
NWN uses directx 8.1 or later.
The other one uses directx 9.0
Shouldn't be a conflict, but nwn/ns says no 3d drivers installed.
I used dxdiag, and it says they are there and working fine.
What else can I check ?
Thanks

I have the latest video drivers, checked the site. They installed when I installed the card. dxdiag says they are there and working.
How would I create a separate directx profile ?

Ah, I'm on Win98se. No profiles.JesterOI wrote:I meant a new windows profile that uses 8.1 instead.
Microsoft installs DirectX, it doesn't ask for a directory.

no difference. Both the toolset and the play claim no 3d installed, but the report text from nwnconfig.exe says its there.
Ah well.

reinstall your video card drivers..the true way is to delete all folders that pretain to your card and then search your WINDOWS/SYSTEM and then your WINDOWS/SYSTEM32 folders for any trace of video card extensions..
for me i use ATI card so i search those folders for anything ATI and delete them ... and use a registry cleaner then reinstall the card drivers and directx.....

Hmm. I've haven't had a chance to try that yet.
But the other game I'm playing works fine.
I'm begining to wonder if its like a smiliar problem I had a several years ago on a Win95 computer.
I had two cds of old video games, reproductions sold by the copyright holders so they would run on a PC. One of them was centipede, etc. I forget what the other one was.
They used different versions of DirectX.
When I installed the second game, the first one didn't work.
Fast forward to now.
I have been playing both everquest and neversummer on the same computer.
Everquest updated to DirectX 9.x about 3-4 weeks ago. I had gotten bored with EQ and was going to play Neversummer.
Now Neversummer wont come up.
So it could be that DirectX conflixt... a repeat of a problem I had years ago with two other games on an earlier computer.
I hope not. There are things I like about both games, but NS tops the list.
As I have spare time, I'll check further into it.
I work all this weekend anyway.

I know its an extreme solution, but are you in a position to do a complete reinstall of Windows?
With all the detrius from about 2 years of running off the same install, I saw a huge jump in performance when I redid my system after buying a second hard drive recently. Still finding tons of little things I had switched (settings) though, so be warned... never goes as smoothly as you'd hope.

That shouldn't be part of it as I wiped and reinstalled win98se about 5 months ago. I rarely download and install programs. About the only thing, besides the two crpgs, I've only installed recently are 3 text editors I got from download.com to work on my web pages.

And I have quit Everquest. So, when my subscription expires at the end of thism onth, I'll remove eq from my computer and be back here. I'll probably have to reinstall NWN first, maybe I'll try that first.
Anyways.
I'll be Bach, no wait, I'll be... tah-dah ! An accordian playing pirate !
