I am going to list the 3 various means of connecting to NS servers and how to resolve problems.
Connection Problems:
The most frequent connection problem has to do with the Port being changed. The easiest way to find out what the new port setting is, through the standard login through GameSpy. Simply check the Server Details. That holds all the information you need. (Checking the forums is another way)
Another connection problem possibility if you have the correct information, is your own firewall. Check to make sure you have granted permission for the current server Port that is being used or your own firewall could block access. The last problem:
Keep in mind that that getting from your computer to the NS4 servers takes you across States, Countries, Continents and/or Oceans depending where you live. The single from your computer goes through many "Hops" from Internet Server to Internet Server as it travels to NS4. There can be a problem anywhere along the way, specially if one of these Internet Servers are down or having extreme lag problems. This can account for gaming issues as well. There is almost nothing you can do about these types of problems that involve servers not related to your internet account. There is a possibility, that by using a Trace Route/Poll Ping program which would show you where along your hops a problem maybe, your ISP might encourage that particular provider to repair the issue. Outside of that, your at the mercy of the Global system.
Connecting To NS4:
#1. GameSpy.
This is the most common way to connect. Check the "Server List", "History" or "Favorites". If you don't see NS4 listed there, check your Firewall. It maybe blocking your access to the NS4 Port.
(personal experience)
#2. GameSpy Direct Connect.
Same as before. When on the "Server List" check NS4 "Server Details" and copy "Server IP Address" exactly as you see it there close the "Detail Screen" and open "Direct Connect". Replace the information in "Server IP Address" with what you copied from "Server Details". Make sure that "Player Password" is blank. This "Direct Connect" will keep that information until you up date when the Port changes.
#3. DeskTop Direct Connect.
This is what most veterans use. The information provided in making this connection is for Windows 2K and XP users. I'm not sure if it is the same for Windows Vista or Linux.
A- On your DeskTop in a blank area, "Right Click" your mouse, high-lite "New", the click on "Shortcut".
B- In "Type the location of item:" type/copy paste the following - C:\NeverwinterNights\NWN\nwmain.exe +connect 74.192.150.137:5121
If you use the "Browse" tab, follow the file tree to nwmain.exe then you will have to type in "+connect 74.192.150.137:5121".
C- Click "Finish", and your done. You will have a new Icon on your DeskTop, just click and go.
#3. Can be done for as many servers as you like. Just make sure you have the "+connect 74.192.150.137:5121"<----- for Prime (without the " " ).
Please make sure the Port in any of these methods is current.
The common Ports for NS4 Prime are: 5121, 60001, 62818
Reflection: 5121
I hope this helps you out.Lokey wrote:We have dns domains that handle that query the ip address. So if say DD's IP changes, it'll still work.
For ns4 they are
ns4.servegame.com:port
ns4reflections.servegame.com:port
and those work as normal. Not sure on the reflections one, it's something like that, and posted on the server boards.
There's also ones for ns5 and ns3.
