stealth mode/hips

Post by vidar999 »

Does anyone know how exactly stealth mode works?

If a monster spots you while you are hidden and you leave stealth mode and go back in (all this assume hips) do they have to make another check (and if so with what kind of bonus) or will they automatically see you until you break line of sight, or leave the area, or what?

I thought they had to make another check but the last few times i've been spotted it seems like they see me till i leave the area.

stealth (Hide) and HiPS are two different things.

Ok, specifically I'm talking about a toon w 5 sd lvls and 14 rg lvl, hide/ms around 80. If I'm fighting by hitting, disengaging, hipsing. Sometime when I'm spotted it seems like I unHiPS, HiPS again, and they don't see me; other times no matter how many times I HiPS they still see me (and I'm running away, trying t break line of sight the whole time). I'm asking what affects this and how an enemy's ability to spot you is determined (ie how long after they first spot u do they have to make another check if you unHips then HiPS again).

Some (most) epic enemies have True Seeing to prevent an AI bug where you can HiPS from them with like 3 hide / ms.

You should check the nwn wiki for all the factors affecting hide, move silent, spot, and listen.

There are too many to make it logical for anyone to list for you.

Sometimes the AI will still follow you around at a slow walk even when they can't see you. They'll stop following and just stand there when they get close enough. I don't know why this happens, other than that is the AI's strange version of detect mode or something. Usually it can be broken down to if they are running towards you or not. If they are running, then they can see you. If they are walking slowly, then they can't see you and are just trying to detect.

Its only an AI issue as far as it wont break its action.

What happens is a mob tries to perform an action (attack for example) and you hips out of its sight. If its timed right, the action (as far as AI goes) is still in process... they just need to get closer. Since they cant see you it makes them walk up to you. When they get up to you they will stop and stand still because they learned their action cannot be carried out (you cant be seen!).
