If you are creating a map just for an event type of deal, then i would get a hold of a dev for more information. Either Lokey or LinuxPup

*edit
If you have an event in mind i'm sure that Aetheria may already have a map in place that could make due. If you already have a story line built out and a good known direction you want your event to go in, feel free to PM a DM and i'm sure we could work something out and even help your event be more exciting with Mobs, Visual Effects, and named placeable objects.

More full explanation of what you'd like to do. Perhaps NWN isn't the right medium to make it in first off :)

Generally, I'm just against random user submissions. There's many and more gotchas and ways to break nwn than I can list here, and many things that are already in that need work, optimization or rewriting from scratch.

New ways to play are always welcome, and there's tons of places that can be repurposed by dms for events (hopefully as easily as practical).

Flesh out the idea first. Having so many random elements to the game makes it tougher for fairness for example.

Greetings Lokey,
More full explanation of what you'd like to do. Perhaps NWN isn't the right medium to make it in first off

It’s already done… if I might explain…
A long time NWN single player builder, I spent four months last fall creating a Boss run for SharonaCurves, Queen of EternalDestiny.org. She is my mentor for online multi-player building and my friend.

During this time my sons and a couple of their old college buddies (that used to play in my PnP weekly games during their undergrad days) saw what I was building and wanted to be able to play it online. Busy with their lives and families, they asked me to set everything up.
So I bought 6 new copies of NWN Diamond, installed, updated and set it up on all their machines. This was the birth of the Fury Guild.

Next, I built a mod consisting of 3 unique obstacle courses to train all these noobies on the NWN interface; playing over LAN they learned how to run, move a PC around and interact with each other before they went online. We ended up having so much fun competing in the obstacle courses that it delayed our Internet presence by two weeks.

These obstacle courses are what believe could provide some good fun and competition between the Guilds and even members within the Guilds… who’s the best in all of Neversummer?!

Up to three PCs can run the course head to head or single competitors can compete against the clock for the best time.
Generally, I'm just against random user submissions.
This is genuinely surprising to me as most of the PWs I’ve seen welcome, if not recruit, creative new talent.
There's many and more gotchas and ways to break nwn than I can list here…

lol… yep… that is true indeed… but with good solid documentation and strict adherence to the rules, all problems can be kept to a bare minimum…
there's tons of places that can be repurposed by dms for events
These areas are unique obstacle courses…
Having so many random elements to the game makes it tougher for fairness for example.
Fairness is indeed the ultimate issue!!
And there is fleshing out to do in regards to the requirements of the contestants…
So far…
Each contestant is provided with an official “running suit” which is hasted; they may not wear or use anything else.
Magic is not allowed.

A good brainstorming session could iron the requirement issues out in a couple days or so…

Actually though, I wasn’t really asking for anything other than the NS building standards… a professional disc golfer, owner and operator of Chainbiters Disc Golf, I am in my busiest time of the year. Most of my building is during the winter months, as would be working on the “obstacle course” project.

I welcome your thoughts :)

[19:51] <Lokey> because effectively you have a part-time dev who doesn't care
[19:49] <Lokey> well there's things to understand. the current dev team is me.
[19:49] <Lokey> 1) I hate all of you
[19:49] <Lokey> 2) I don't have that much dev time

Sorry to have bothered you…
you can rest assured it will never happen again!

Tell you what DZ,

Take a look around the pre existing Maps in the realm. When you find one you like let me know and start thinking about what type of mobs/monsters you would like to see blocking the paths. We can also always add walls, rocks, gates, ect to create maze like conditions or paths you want your "lil pigs" to follow.

Unsolicited differs from solicited :)

For example, timing would be very difficult using stock commands for a number of reasons (top being game clock is very low priority for updates, once you hit a few resource limits it stops working. We manually give it a kick as I assume most large modules do--at least those of devs I've talked to. This makes the GetModuleTimeX() functions even more worthless if that's the method you use.) So we'd need some way to haul in system time--it's the 21st century, we can do that :) Persistence of results wouldn't be bad to do, but would require some work (other than a who's best at shopping a screenshot contest ;))

And that's just one issue that's going to be common to any large, populous server. There's others, some specific ones that are only problems because of compromises in function or optimization made years ago and the reasons for which might be invalid now :)

Thank you both for your responses...

tis more like the ancient Olympics, where enemies would lay down their weapons for a few days to compete in non-violent games. No mobs or monsters would be involved.
And that's just one issue that's going to be common to any large, populous server.
Indeed I can forsee a issue or two... When time permits I will get it all working on a PW, so y'all can go and see what it is...
Then perhaps it will be solicited :D

thanks again for your time...
