yikes! I accidentally shot a grizzly bear last night and now all lions and tigers and bears and dire creatures are hostile to me

What can I do?

I tried apologizing but they just killed and ate me for my efforts

The animals do not forgive quickly or easily. Your only hope is that Mielikki intercede on your behalf with them.

In the future when you accidently target a freindly or crit fail an animal empathy on one, the best solutions are.

Either flee the hostile and perhaps area, or log out to let the area reset.

Ive never acidently shot a bear, being non hostile, it takes added effort to target a friendly (stop drinking Gorms Grog)
But have crit failed animal emp checks before, at which time I avoid the animal and generally in a few rounds they stop chasing, occassionally i have to trans to next zone.

If your hostility remains, this is a good time to try your hand at the fun we all effectionatly call "Relic wars" the act of pulling a relic and running it back to cap it in your faction will help with your rep and standing with the fellow animals you share the forrest with.

Get with some TSS to show you the ropes and maybe they will take you along for a raiding run and let you try to pull and return the Relic.

Are you sure Gorm? it will improve TC faction rep, but the animals and fey are part of thier own lil faction I think.

Way more than one animal death, it was a slaughter
there was a big cluster of big animals fighting a big cluster of Bugbears... Somehow I hit a grizzly bear and he me attacked immediately, my summoned beast killed him and then all the bear's buddies attacked us. When the dust cleared only we remained standing, we zapped back to town and logged out and waited for a server reset before coming back in.

All felines, canines, bears and dire creatures attack me on sight, yet none are hostile to Higdish, even though his attacks of opportunity killed most of them

I would be more than willing to make an offering to Melikii... where would one go to give such a gift?

I will have to call a council meeting with the Gods and discuss a proper offering or perhaps a quest to have you partake upon in order to gain devine intervention....... This will take some thought.

It is always possible that Torm the God of your friendly allies in NC might have some thoughts if Melikki is not able to be contacted. She is a free spirit and is sometimes a bit busy communing with nature to see the plights of man.
