Stonehold on the epic dwarfs

Post by Tsavong »

Ive got a 30th lvl pure Druid which fully buffed 42 wisdom when buffed end epic SF conjuration and epic spell penetration and my stone hold dose nothing it says there immune. Ive seen other druids casting stonehold and it working on the epic dwarfs so I was wondering what I did wrong with my druid

Well mines is 39th druid, epic conj but no pen feats, it works ok you have to run em around in the cloud for a fair bit to get them stoned - other than that i dont know why yours dosent work sorry.

Now THAT's an impressive 'synergy' technique - you guys should have received an xp bonus according to the NS4 server features ;P

Ic well thanks for the help

im guessing there save is probably a bit to high for me I did have some success today after I posted that the difference this time I had some high lvl bards with me to curse song them to make them easer to hold, so in the future ill have to work on summing a bard form the depths to serve me

check the will saves on the dwarves. elite dwarves have a pretty decent will save and it will be hard to stone them without a curse song. the little dwarves have a lower will save and you will catch them pretty routinely (these may be the ones you see other druids stoning). since their +will may be close to your save dc it may take a few rounds to get to them. the elites also have buffs, so it may pay to drop a dispel hammer on them.

mind fog is ok, but according to the docs it's a will save. so if they failed your mind fog save, they would have failed the stonehold will save too... it's a little pointless unless you have worthwhile mind fog dc and your stoneholder doesn't. curse song does way more for the stonehold.

at best mind fog forces them to make an extra will save, which can be useful if they're +save is close to your spell's dc.

mind fog isnt pointless they have to make 2 saves instead of one failing either results in disaster for them tack on a curse song and its a great tatic.

Keep in mind that mind fog is an AoE with a duration and you can run circles around the fog to keep your enemy in it (like we all did with giants and grease at lvl 10). It is also a lower level spell and (especially for sorcs) provides you the opportunity to toss them out without as much reservation as you would have burning a 1x use, higher lvl spell.

It's a great combo and I've seen it in action, working wonderfully.

i'm sure it has its uses, especially if you have high dc (bards typically dont). however in my experience whatever you're fighting is usually dead before mind fog makes much difference. depending on your main will save effect, you also have to WAIT until mind fog has done its thing for a few rounds before blowing it (stonehold does have better synergy here as a persistent aoe effect). if it was going to be rough for your level, now its rougher if you have to wait for the big gun. and if it wasnt going to be rough, you didnt need mind fog ;)

"crap out of mind fogs, this one will be rough... what the.. they died just as fast anyway? oh."
