Biography: Ælæressai, Forsaken Avatar Of Ckær'evlon

Post by Æ »

I posted this back on the NS3 forums, but I thought I'd do it again here, slightly modified (very slightly lol) for NS4 and for all the new players and such. Hope you like }: )

Ælæressai Of Fallen Darkward, Forsaken Avatar Of Ckær'evlon
<------(Portrait - From NS3)

Ælæressai remembers little of his origins other than the few elusive memories he clings to of his lost home, Fortress Darkward -- his own given name is not known to him. When but a child of eight years, Ælæressai fell victim to dire circumstance when the kind and well-intentioned, though rather impulsive, Lord of Darkward, in all his righteous arrogance, attempted an ill-conceived archane attack against the fiendish legions of the lower planes... The failure of which attempt resulting in the opening of a massive rift to the grey battlefields of Carceri within the sanctified walls of the city of Darkward.

The battling Tanar'ri and Baatezu that flooded into the streets, still locked in their eternal Blood War, quickly inundated the city in chaos. By sunrise on the following day, the once great city had been razed to the ground, her proud people slain, her great armies defeated... Darkward had been ravaged by demonic lusts.

During the horror, a Balor lord known as Ckær'evlon, sensing the potential strength of the blood of Darkward, chose several human children to be raised and trained in the harsh and cruel, often abusive and torturous Tanar'ri fashion -- to be forged and hardened into weapons of the Blood War and Avatars of Ckær'evlon's malicious will. So it came to be that Ælæressai, as the Tanar'ri came to call him, was taken from his family, adopted by the very fiends he watched murder that family, and brought to the Abyss to be infused with Tanar'ri blood and foul magics, and trained in the brutal arts of fiendish warfare.

Over the course of the following years, Ælæressai fought and trained hard. He endured the torment of living among demons, survived the pointless, viscously bloody battles his masters continually thrust him into, and steadily grew in power; all the while maintaining a pretence of being swayed over to the causes and "ideals" of the Tanar'ri, even as he grew to loathe them more with the passing of each long year of damnation...... Until the day he found an escape.

On that day in his twenty-third year, Ælæressai was leading a group of lesser Tanar'ri on an assassination mission against a minor Baatezu lord, when, in a forgotten chamber deep underneath the iron walls of that great fiend's fortress in Baator, he found an ancient, unstable portal. Through the shimmering gate, Ælæressai glimpsed the only green and lush landscape he had seen since he was a child.

Instantly Ælæressai seized the moment he had waited so long for. He sprung into action and, releasing fifteen years of pent-up rage in one brief moment, turned on and slayed his Tanar'ri "allies", and leapt into the portal... Only to find himself existing formless in some indescribable, chaotic planar vortex, with the aperture he had entered nowhere to be seen, or perhaps rather sensed, as he had no eyes in this place. However, Ælæressai had hardly an instant to contemplate his situation before the vortex seemed to collapse around him, crushing the life-force from his very being...

After an indeterminable period of time in utter oblivion, Ælæressai awakes, confused at finding himself, apparently reincarnated, in the world that he had seen through the portal in Baator. Feeling about himself, Ælæressai is surprised and relieved to find he is still occupying the same body, though it has been stripped of his fiendish armor and weapons and drained of his dark powers. His skin is paler than it had ever been even living in the dimness of the lower planes, and it is colder as well -- in fact his whole body and soul seem cold and it occurs to him that he may have become some manner of undead... Though, perhaps not, as he also feels sore and hungry. However, it gradually settles into his consciousness that he is finally free from hell...

Feeling the weight of his black past lifted off of what remains of his soul, Ælæressai gathers his memories and sets off to begin his new life, swearing a raging oath to combat the forces of demon-kind where ever fate should carry him......
