I just wanted to point something out. I've been playing a character in AO...
Several times I have discovered most if not all of the NPCs in the main part of Sleeth dead. Players from other factions had wiped out everything, including the NPCs within city buildings.
Now, I'm all for some roleplaying and factional wars and all that, but killing off NPCs *SERIOUSLY* damages lower level characters' ability to advance and have fun.
The NPCs (like the ones who give out jobs) are key component to the vision I think the DMs are trying to create. Killing these NPCs may be a thrill, but try to understand what this does to everyone who needs them.
If killing NPCs is something you enjoy, please consider the out-of-game impact it has.

I think that the one who kills NPC alias non guards dont care on impact it does on low lvl chrs, and thats sad I must say.
I raid other factions but only kill the guards and I rez lowbies that happen to come into the crossfire. But as I said some dont care.

I love the smell of burning drowblood in the Morning, it smells like...................Victory.

usually when i raid an faction, i kill all the named npcs to see if they drop any decent gear(except for stuff near rift shards/inns).
probably will never kill another named npc in AO though. those dragons are such a pain, and they drop the standard crap gear, and that's it. no fancy special gear you expect from bosses. the guards however, drop some sweet stuff.
you can't expect every raider to know which npcs are job ones and which aren't.

indeed job-giving NPC should be immortal. for example Sir Pepin and Lord Einhard in NS city.
and don't say that immortal NPCs aren't RolePlay-compliant. this is not a pure RP server. it is a mix
edit: i forgot storekeepers. they should be immortal too
