Zing unavailable for the next month or so

Things won't be happy internet-wise for Zing for at least the next few days and possibly for the next month. So if he's promised any assistance to you in whatever way, he may not be able to deliver for a while.

wow, I imagine all those undersea cables would takes far longer to fix than above ground ones, though I guess they dont break as readily...lets hope they can get the lines back up soon

I don't know where he is in relation to the quake, but do we know if he's ok?

if the asians had hung the sea cables by skyhooks; they would have had no problem

Yeah, I talked to him today - quake was far from where he was, just the internet access for pretty much all of Asia was shot.

I seriously doubt it'll take a month to restore access - maybe to pre-quake levels, but he'll be back in the game soon. Just might have spotty access to anything for while.

Estimates from regional service providers are anywhere from two weeks to two months. Most are saying two to three weeks. They are discussing bringing up satellite connections in the interim.

The company I work for doesn't have a POP in Taiwan, but we do have POPs in Hong Kong and Singapore. Most of our upstreams are experiencing massive amounts of packet loss so we had to shut them down. The few remaining service providers, Verio and Singapore Telecom, are experiencing little to moderate amounts of packet loss.

Hi Guys,

I have ok-ish conectivity from the office, but at home it's still really bad. Too bad to browse Googles homepage even let alone do anything useful.

Basically the service providers are prioritising business traffic out of Hong Kong and Residential connections will take more time.

It's estmated that I should have at least something useable within the next few days. It will take a month or so to get back to full service though.

Looks like I managed to wrap enough tin foil around the top of my building.

This is the first time I've managed to connect to these boards from home since the quake.
