No more running around in circles with your monks avoiding a fight until the cradle is defeated.

Relic "logging" is also harder to do now that the areas which will cause you to suffer a penalty for doing so have been increased.

A random amount of Defenders must now be defeated in order to take a Relic from it's cradle.
So I take this to mean PC defenders, right? I can see where you're going with it, and I like it, as a certain SD Monk liked to hide and split with relics ... but what about a situation in which defenders simply don't log to defend? Would a relic be unable to be taken?
But, it's such a draining job that, until you've DMed on an NWN server yourself, you the playerbase, have got to cut the DMs some slack. - Flailer

NPC defenders, of course that gives the PC defenders longer to respond...

Sounds good.

OK, seems there is now a server message when the defenders are attacked and when they are defeated... with the relic being released when they are defeated. That sound about right?

Perhaps setting the unique epic faction defender up with an "Invaders" shout script similiar to the Diviner would help. Currently no shout is posted until you touch the cradle still. If you haven't defeated enough defenders then the timer doesn't start but it still sends out a warning.

This sounds like really good news on an issue that is very frusturating to me, I hope this works out well...

If it doesn't
Could we make it so the player has to stand NEXT to the relic for it to weaken, and perhaps make it so that defenders standing next to the relic would strengthen it- unless they are hidden\invisible\sancuaried

I think it's very lame when I'm in the relic room and someone can tag it and completely aviod contact with all of the defenders PC and NPC while it weakens and then still take the relic.

I've always been a fan of the type of point-capturing that can be seen in such games as the Battlefield series (or Guild Wars Alliance Battles, if thats your thing...), where you capture the area depending on how many players you have more than the other team.

From this, a single relic raider could never steal a relic from 2 defenders, unless of course, he killed them. But if several more came to his aid, they could potentially begin to weaken the relic.

That would be very cool too, All I really want is for someone to have to kill me if im there "DEFENDING" the relic.

id be up for that IF you could not respawn while the relic was being captured.
Otherwise once there is more than one person, they just keep respawning and running back so you never get the relic.

A long time ago we discussed implementing a respawn time if killed in an area while a relic raid is underway, to prevent the Lemming style combat that seems to pop up every now and then, but nothing came of it at the time.

Maybe its something we should look into again?
Serving NS4 proper as Lathander and Sleeth as Bahamut.

Yes, I'm a DM, but your build still sucks.

Along those lines a relic defender might be able to touch the relic and reset the timer to prevent the smash and grab.
That or maybe require the cradle take a certain amount of damage before it gives up its goodies.

While on the topic of relics, might something be done about the order in which relics are taken?
I can see getting your own relic first when you raid another cradle but a factions relic should always be the last one taken since it has stronger ties to its home crade.
