Gods of the Realm

Post by MLoki »

I have noticed alot of new gods recently and I was wondering where they might have originated from. I found this post under Deities of the Realm;

The Deities in Neversummer 4 are taken directly from the Forgotten Realms list of Pantheons. For the moment, a system of deities has not been implemented (and thus no restrictions are placed on alignment, faction, domains, or class). Some domains represented are not available in Neverwinter Nights - this and other specifics about the Deities will be changed and posted before the system is implemented. Feel free to use this as a springboard for discussion on the General board.

but it seems our new gods stem from far and wide. Some are recognizable from other realms while others seem to be completely foreign. Just an observation that I thought I might share.

And some gods may have originated in FR but changed on their walk to Aetheria. Seems like Auril had a funny business change and got the portfolio of Mask :D.

we should not forget that Aetheria is a strange and unknown part of the realms that have rules that do not apply to other realities.

Sylvanus isn't on that spreadsheet, and Haela doesn't show a DM assigned when I know she's around.

Several of those listed are as far as I know totally not around.

What I would like to know is why Eilistraee, a goddess of good, is on the list as an ally of the plainly evil Shadow Legion.

Because we aren't all evil coming from Menzoduran. Remember you can make a neutral character there too.
If you still have questions concerning the Dark Maiden, Dancer under the Moonshine, feel free to contact Qilué.

Eilistraee is actually a Drow Goddess for surface Drow.

You would think that the planes and various realities would not affect which gods were where. You would think that the Gods would be able to trancend the various realities in order to impose their will. Do not the same Gods apply to Aetheria as the other worlds and existences? Is that not why they are called Gods?

They're not true gods in the sense of being omnipotent/omniscient... also, some have more "influence" in some areas than in others; thus the importance of temples, having followers, etc.

Heh, yay, let's have a theology congress over gods and godesses. Give everybody a portfolio, and if he or she wants to change it they would have to wrestle it from their likes. A religious war of some sort.
AND if they lost all their support, aka worshippers, they just would go *poof* lol.

Nah, earnestly it's a fantasy game, we can only go so far, not applying common sense and reality to it. If the DMs decide to change Auril ie. So accept it and go along.

I dunno. I think a religious war from time to time would bring an interesting flavor to Aetheria. Keeps things interesting.

heh. I think in DnD the gods are partly defined by their own divine essence, but also defined by the beliefs of their followers in them. Hence if we all believe Auril has had a gender change, it's perfectly possible.

OTOH i find the idea of locking the DMs in a room and having them wrestle over portfolios quite appealing. We could even market it.
