The answer to everyones woes

Post by mgrjebbo »

If it were possible to code it, the answer to all the crying would be this:

Make both Cleric and PM a class which a player can only take 1 cross class with.

IE 2 classes total not 3. PM/Fighter PM/Mage Cleric/Fighter Cleric/Paladin

Now wouldnt that be wonderful!

i think PM and clerics are underpowered and should be made stronger. maybe extra pm and cleric gear is needed to help these 2 classes out.

in a perfect mod the only complaint is its perfect

Never thought I'd be saying this, but Chase rocks. Besides, I think you guys are missing the point of "not nerfing other classes to make one stronger for balance, but making the weaker ones stronger so they're up to the competition."

Some cleric gear would be nice, I don't have any on my pure cleric.

If this post is indicative of the kind of thinking behind all of the PM-bashing, it's no wonder so many people are crying - because they don't take the time to truly learn about making builds in NWN. Geez! A PM/F combo is IMPOSSIBLE. Acceding to the demands of such malcontents is like a parent giving a child nothing but candy to eat but he is all the time crying for it. Changes to the base functionality of a program (NWN) that was in development for years and underwent extensive testing should be very well-thought out and reversible (in case things don't turn out as expected). It should not be a knee-jerk reaction to a bunch of clamoring.

lol, if you only knew how much weve changed this module away from base NWN

to say that NWN had a ton of testing brings up 2 possible replies: either you're mistaken, or their testers were as incompetant as their devs. Our devs have been working on this module for years and are still trying to fix the myriad of problems with it (shifters are a GREAT example).

Well, I am a software developer who has worked on fairly large projects. So I guess I'm speaking from experience. I would be willing to bet large sums of money that Bioware had a QA team of at least a half dozen people. And I would be willing to bet that the entire program was extensively spec'd out. I will concede that all kinds of errors and oversights can happen in software development - look no further than Microsoft to see this. But that doesn't mean that people who haven't taken the time to learn how to defeat a PM should overturn all of the good work (and if there wasn't any good work done, why are we all playing NWN?) Bioware did.

The real problem is, NWN was primarily intended as a single player game or a game that you could create modules with and play with a group of people under the direction of a DM.

The whole perisistant world concept was basically invented by the community and exists only by exploiting some semi-nasty hacks in the server. Add on top of that a real player vs player environment that NS4 supports (that again really wasn't in the original design) and you're taking two large steps from what the original game intended.

Not only that, you'd be amazed at what a rush job game developers are under. If the game works, that's a success - if they've managed to completely balance the game too, they've spent too much time on it. Not only that, DnD itself isn't balanced really for PvP.

So, yeah - it's a struggle. :)

Yeah, I have a goody-two shoes friend whose always a paladins while my other friend is always a rogue. I'm still stumped on why those two would ever work together, I tried to get my rogue friend (more experienced) to kill the paladin so he'd create a new character (the guy doesn't make anything but paladins) but it didn't work out  .

its always funny to watch a good RP'er make a pally player believe someone just gave him the stuff....it really stumps a pally why a person would need 6 bags full of jewelry.
