The Arena is open.
Do you have what it takes to defend your faction? Stand up and protect the honor of your God?
Watch for the arena announcement on shout and prepare to fight to the death.
Once inside there is no escape nowhere to run you win or die. Your Gods shrine stands behind you and your enemies shrine sits protected on the other side of the arena by Her followers, choose your stragety wisely you must destroy the abomination while protected the sacred shrine of your own God.

that was pretty cool, but some work needs to be done imo. i believe the map should be changed a bit. maybe put ramps up so you can send a gank squad around the edge of the map or something, or defend with a bunch of archers. maybe some kind of large placeables in the middle of the map to obstruct Line of Sight sometimes.
hmm..and perhaps there could be repair kits somewhere for the shrines that can bring them back to full health or something, placed at inconvienient spots to get to.
and i think the shrines themselves die rather fast, perhaps make them immune to crits somehow or give them more DR. 1 person who does nice crits shouldnt be able to solo the shrine. and a huge party rush shouldnt be able to kill it in seconds.....no idea how those can get leveled out hehe.
in guild wars, the "shrine" there in this similar battle type is given damage reduction basically that diminishes over time.
anywho...its pretty fun

First step is done I think, the shrines were made much stronger now so next time don’t plan on the quick destruction.
It seemed like everyone had fun so on a reward side the teams put up something as a bet gold or items? Loosing team has to give up any relics they have? From the DM I don’t think it is justified to give out big rewards, I mean it’s a fun distraction from killing monsters since people are always unpredictable but, maybe something small 3 free raise scrolls to each person on the winning team (in addition to ones supplied, 3 for whole team).
Lets see some ideas.

The arena event was fun and Metis did a great job for a trial run. Hard to organize all those toons at once!
On the idea of relics as prizes. I see that as becoming a major issue because it not only penalizes the losing team..it penalizes players on the server who just logged in or who werent participating in the event right then. Sometimes its hard to imediately abandon your party to their deaths in a hard area to go join an event.
It would be nice if the Arena is a place to do things that are fun and challenging but not relic related.

ok heres a few ideas.
1) make there be 3 different portals that require 3 different level groups.
level 10-19
level 20-29
level 30-40
this would allow people to go in not worying about being level 16 and getting owned by a level 38 cleric.
also i think there should be a perma holding chest that locks once things are put in them and a key drops from the remains of the shrine. this way the losing team cant turn around and keep what they wagered.
mabey instead make it so someone can port to the arena as a ref. so they can play gear holder or money holder to keep betting fair.
if this was to go into efect then i think dms should appoint certain people as arena refs for thhis situation that way if there is a problem they can go to the ref in question and not worry about tons of people giving there story. Mabey get those nutral tss doods to do it they are nutral right

I like CrazyJ's suggestion best. tokens that you can save for some gear of your choosing. you can still exchange them for the items previously posted, perhaps 1 could give you a couple raise dead scrolls. sacrifice 2 to bring 1 relic back, etc...gear/tomes would be much more costly

I dont want to get into the token thing again like ns3 had.
The arena should only be a small diversion. This is not ns3.
Raise dead scroll for events should be fine. We can put a tranisition to the arena for non sanctioned combat if need be but I dont want to see half the server in there getting free gear.
