NS4: Lack of HotU content?

Post by Deicide »

Hey, just an observation about NS4: why is there almost no content from Hordes of the Underdark? So far I've seen no creatures from there. In the Underdark, there are no actual driders (there are spiders named driders), I've seen no Illithid, no Beholders, no Azhers. I would love to see a demon boss that uses Mephistopheles' or the Valsharess' models. Just for curiosity: why we have almost no HotU content in NS4?

Because most of the mobs and areas were developed before HotU came out, or if afterwards, we tried to keep it open to people who didn't have HotU for a while.

More areas coming soon that use some of those models...

The "lack" of HotU content was, best I can tell, simply an administrative decision way back in the day about how the module would be organized along epic/non-epic lines. Somewhere in the old documentation was the idea that non-epic areas would require only the basic version of the game, to allow the largest number of people to try the module out to see if they liked it before they decided to get trapped by how awesome NS4 is  ... the planar areas and other areas which are decidedly epic-only would then have plenty of HotU content, although all levels of play certainly encourage having both SoU and HotU for access to all the spells, PrCs, and feats the basic game lacks. Although the planes are only getting thrown in to the mix now in recent weeks, you'll find that even now they're chock full of HotU models, tilesets, visuals, and other fun HotC items.

Give me a few more days to level, and then if you ask nicely, you'll be in a party with a Drider. Or Minotaur. Or Wyrmling. Or Medusa. Or Illithid. Or...

Like the DMs said: there is HotU material up in the planes. It would be good perhaps to see a "facelift" eventually that put in HotU material in the older areas (like say driders) now that the module requires a full install, but finishing faction jobs and opening the rest of the planes are probably the top priority (at least, that's what I want to see the devs work on :)).

I agree with Elagneros as much as I would love to see more HotU in other areas other then Planar the other things such as jobs and future quests are in my oppinion much more important for the time being :)

uh oh. he's right, it's dangerous stuff. when we found an 8 player network version of bubble bobble it wrecked the entire department's productivity for weeks.
