Gods & Events

Post by OneKnightinChina »

In-game i hear alot of people Hailing Lathender, and someone mentioned him being a god, are there other gm's that are gods for each faction?
sorry if this is such a noobish question, i'd rather ask in here than in-game.

Thanks

Before you judge a man walk a mile in his shoes, after that who cares? he's a mile away and you have his shoes.

All of the DMs play Gods.

I myself play Torm, the current patron of NC.

Lathander is the Patron of LA.

Lolth is Matron of SL.

Bane is Patron of MA.

Tiamat is Patron of AO.

Moradin is Patron of RK.

Mielikki is Matron of TC.

Auril holds no ties to a faction.

Each faction has a DM that acts as their ruler/god. No matter how well you RP they will not give you items. I've tried.

We tend to go light on RP and heavy on action. shout channel is generally out of context. we DMs play deities, and try our best to roleplay them (some very exceptionnally, others... not so much =P )

One tip; let your party members know if you prefer to roleplay. Me, I generally dont roleplay (as a player), but will if I have someone in my party who does.

I've seen the gods' influence over the world three times since I joined (almost 2 months ago). In all cases, it was Auril, the God of Trickery.

In the first time, he painted the armor of my Paladin purple. I don't know what I have done to make notice me, but there you go: a purple King Gustav armor for me!

The second was this sunday, and it was pretty neat. My swordsman, Surial Blademaster, joined a party and we went up on Giant Mountain. Strange traps appeared here and there, and one of them killed me. I respawned, promising that the trapper would met his demise quite soon. Little did I know that the trapper was a god...

I followed the mountain trail to meet my party near the top, and suddenly a barrier of stones appeared to block Ogre Pass! "Weird", I said to my companions (through the Party channel, since they were a few screens up on the trail). Suddenly one of my companions said that his armor turned purple! It was quite clear that the god of trickery was challenging us, and I roleplayed as well, excited to win the challenge.

It was neat, full of surprises. After I found the way through the stone barrier, the party got together. All our garments changed collors, and parrots appeared in great numbers out of nowhere. The ogres and giants became more dangerous, like gaining Ultravision to fight our darkness. Nevertheless, we pressed forward, until the God of Trickery appeared himself, said that he owed us, and rewarded us with 1,000 xp each.

It was very cool. I hope that other GMs do something like this sometimes.

Later, this monday, the gods once again lent some help to Surial Blademaster. I was trying to help a higher level (19th) Druid who fell in the Ice Crypts. I, a 16th level character, went through the Frozen Wastes, fighting wolves and the occasional polar bears. I could handle only a bear at a time, but the wolves were no problem (since I have high Reflexes and evasion, their breaths are no problem). When I was almost reaching the crypt, a lot of wolves surrounded me. No problem, I could kill them all, but then this Polar Bear came along the wolves, and I died. To my surprise, the bear died a few seconds after my death, and I was resurrected with some HP. Even my companion druid in the crypts was raised. I am not certain if it was Auril this time, but I thanked the gods for our luck and their help.

I think I'll pray to Auril from now on.

And, about roleplay, I do roleplay a little. It depends on the party or the people that I meet. I love to roleplay the characters.

Yes, Auril is the most player active god. Hey favors spots where people power-level (Giant Mountain, Frostdale, etc.) and likes to prey on his victims there. The purple dye is what they do to you if they catch you afk. Auril is well-known for his traps, kinda funny when someone's rogue started picking them up considering they're godly traps.

yes....the gods do not like it when you kill their planar bosses all alone. for some reason when the in the pits of fire and upon killing the boss there....5 more appeared, when i tried invis they suddenly had true seeing. when some companions and I killed the emperor of terra a few more suddenly appeared. we slew them after a tough fight. after boasting of our mighty prowess 4 more appeared and beat us down.

moral of the story, if you make the gods look bad they will take care of you one way or another.
if i didn't do it...someone else would have.

Well, I do not know why the Nameless Knight became the purple knight, but I was not afk at the moment, I was selling my things at the Avendell Smithy and getting new gear. Maybe he thought I was afk because it took a loooong time to put every little item I had in the merchant's chest?

Anyway, it was quite strange. I was still a noob, and had played for a week. Thinking back now, it was very fun (and embarassing), because the color scheme Auril chose was ugly as hell (purple and solid black).

Anyway, I am not complaining. Auril is my favorite god, and I would like to see the others more active as well.

Auril is definitely the most active... and he is benevolent sometimes, too (just not most of the time). Definitely fun to have around, though.

Low-level party doing wolves and bears in FD with Darkness. We'd run across a few Slow traps, so it was pretty obvious that Auril thought we shouldn't be there. We stayed for a while, and suddenly 5 UV-equipped polar bears come charging along. 3 of us stayed and fight, the 4th thinks we're all gonna die and zones to rest before coming back to help. We managed to kill all the bears. Auril showed up in person (blinding column of light, minor earthquake, etc) and awarded 500xp to us. Except the guy who ran.

Fun stuff.
