New rules

Post by |-Ifrit-| »

For characters that existed in the database before this update:
• 5 level minimum requirement for the classes of Paladin, Monk and all Prestige Classes.
• This requirement isn't enforced until the end of your build, before you reach level 40.
Are u guys just trying to completly change NWN cause in my opinion thats just idiotic.

i mean 90% of all builds arnt usable here, this new rule means that 99% of all good builds...cant be done here

Like im not trying to get myself banned here but i just thought...as you know i always do, express my views on this subject

Ummmm...

The changes are GREAT! I've been hoping for something like this for a while to help stop SOOO many cheese builds.. now if you want the benefits of monk or paly, or prcs.. you have to sacrifice 5 or 10 caster levels, or whichever class you are taking.

How can this be a bad thing? it's perfect, and it even lets you get creative if you can get in a 3rd non-restricted class before 20 to get a few extra lvls on your main class, etc.

Yes i see what u mean by that but... i love cheese builds... i suppose this actually benifits me because now that there is no cheese builds i can build a perfectly legit character to own u all.. i have one question tho what happens to the people like sirus who are already 40 and only have 1 level in sd ?

Oh no! That'd be horrible! Because Bioware's implementation of things is so golden!

Seriously, in a low magic item world like NS4, the quality of your toon is determined by your build primarily, not the uber items you collect (although those complete the picture). Our probably fruitless goal is to achieve balanced options for builds that can all be competative against each other.

The first step in that was limiting one PrC per build. This is the second step. The third step (coming soon!) is the introduction of Pure Class bonuses. This will provide those who wish to maintain a pure class build to be competative with those that like to mix and match classes.

All we're doing is the same that any self-respecting DM would do in a PnP campaign - if a player tried to build a 1 Pali/1 SD/ 38 Sorc, he would probably be afflicted with some terrible disease by the gods for his choice.

There's still a million different builds you can do that will accomplish something similar to what you want without exploiting the least common denominator builds that everyone gravitates to because to not do so is to doom your build to be non-competative.

Here here

I completely agree with flailer the sound of terrible things happening for displeasing the God's sounds fun maybe we can exspect something of the sort in the future???

I realise that the God's already play an active role at times during play and I think having specialist things being opened for pure build's is a good balance for the rules now in place for those who choose to mix and match.

Good work team am already looking forward to what you come up with next :D

I'm fairly pleased with the new character-build rules. They don't harm most non-caster builds by much, which was my greatest concern when I first heard such a rule was in the making. On the other hand, the rules don't prevent most of the caster and shadowdancer cheese that I assumed was the reason for the new rules...

it just means you need to be more creative within the restrictions, every1 is under the same rules, so its not like you are really suffering more than any1 else

I disagree. with the new racial spell resistance (tips hat to flailer) most casters cannot afford to lose 5 points to their SR checks. So now it is a tough decision between being competitive against high SR characters or being able to HIPS, instead of doing both as before.

Actually they can because Epic Spell Pen. gives +6.
