Item Level Restrictions

Post by Grinum »

When buying equipment i know you can try the stuff on to see there required level but you might want to put the level requirement in the item's description, would help a lot. For example, earlier today i was checking out equpment in avendell, saw some nice stuff that i was able to afford so i tried it on. It let me equip it so i thought cool and bought them. Played most of the day in my new equipment. Turns out there was a bug negating the level restrictions (which was fixed soon after it seems). Anyways, i die 30min? ago and respawned naked, go to put my stuff back on and says required lvl 13 (i'm lvl 10). I have no problems with lvl restrictions, might even like the idea but it would've been nice to have the lvl requirement in the item's description so everyone would know for sure the required lvl on an item, but since i had no idea that i wasn't actually high enough for my stuff i ended spending around 200k on upgrades. Aside from this the game's been a blast and think you guys have done a very good job overall.

I've noticed in version 3 NS that passing my cursor over an item, and it shows a red rectangle background, that character cannot use that item.

Is this not implemented in version 4 of NS ?

according to NWN you can use the items you are proficient with. its NS custom scripting that gives us the custom item level restrictions. so the red highlighting of the item will not work. however, if you try out an item in a store and you can't wear it, that should be a good clue not to buy it.

Heh. A snip from last night's DM Chat:

<Braticus> Lokey, when ya do pop back in is it possible to put the level of an item on the item. Several myself included have purchased gear from the merchant only to find out after that we can not use it for (in my case) 4 more levels
<Braticus> thanks I'll check back later and make note on the forum
<MzDeadTiredGoodNight> No, but you
<MzDeadTiredGoodNight> You can try it on first
<Saint_> try it on :-)
<MzDeadTiredGoodNight> With SoU went item levels.
* MzDeadTiredGoodNight wonders why Braticus never responds to me.
* MzDeadTiredGoodNight slaps Braticus around a bit with a large trout
<Lokey> Hehe that's about 1800 item descriptions to do...I'll send you an erf

So anyone who wants to volunteer to put item levels on the items? Keep in mind that the level restrictions may change, since this is beta, and they'd have to be redone... any takers? (I'm not serious, folx; I don't have the authority to make this offer. DD, Joran or Lokey could.)

It's not real high on the priority list right now, and probably won't be for some time. Fixing bugs and implementing new content - like jobs for the factions that don't have them yet - are much higher up. Once all that is done, then maybe - just maybe - this will be considered.

Same item problem happened to me.I was wearing a helm and ring for a day or so - sold my lesser equipment and joined dead to find that i could no longer use items for another 4 levels.Level restriction text in the item description would be a great help - if possible :)

I think adding the level to the item's description would be redundant, at this point. The only reason it's even an issue is because the item restrictions were fixed after people had already acquired certain items. That will no longer be an issue as the level requirements are now working, and you can try before you buy.

I agree with Grinum, that happened to me when i bout some stuff :( :x . If u cant use it u souldnt be able to buy it at all. That would be easier. Because it dose suck when u blow all ur gold on something and u cant use it.

I have bought stuff i can't use immediately on purpose. I knee I would be able to use it soon and that way I would have it when I lvled. Also, you don't lose items when you die - only the money. If you have spent it you can't lose it :D
