Any way to determine an invader's faction?

Post by TastyTreat »

I was just wondering if there is any way to figure out what faction a player belongs to, particularly when being invaded. If the ambiguity is part of the point I would at least suggest being able to determine a player's faction after said player is pked. Just a thought. :)

Listen to the shouts of "For Clangedin!" as the dwarves wipe you out? Just a thought. :)

or the shouts of " You shall all fall to the might of the Last Alliance!",,,....or you could just ask, most will say after they know that you notice them in your territory.

While those are nice suggestions, not everyone will be roleplaying and even if they are they may not want to announce their intentions. I'm just considering that random raids from 'unidentified' parties could become a problem when one does not know who to retaliate against.

I too have a very hard time telling who's who. Would it be possible to automatically add a tag to people's names, or add some text when they shout? Like this:

Player 1 (LA): Blah blah blah
Player 2 (NC): neener neener neener

I guess there was some sort of raid in Garagoth last night, and people were taunting each other back and forth on /shout, but I had no clue who was on my side (MA) and who was an intruder. Therefore, I couldn't even participate in the taunting (all in the name of roleplaying, you understand!)

I am against having faction tags or other "Out of Character" identifiers.

1. takes all the fun out of guessing who it is.
2. blatent OOC information that spoils any attempt at RP.

Maybe make it a spot check or something when you encounter a person from another faction to determine whether or not to hostile them right away.

The suggestions about people using their faction in their battle cry would work, if people did that.

Most of the people I encountered didn't even bother. They just ran up, kicked your hindparts all over the place, and left. Pretty much like you were just another monster to kill.

I was not suggesting anything blatently OOC since I do agree that it doesn't sit well with RPing. But, I did mention somehow being able to identify a person's faction after they were killed and there are plenty of ways to RP that. For example: "You search the fallen invader and discover he/she has bears the mark of The Legon." Or something along those lines. This would also add an interesting element where invaders would not want to be killed for fear of retribution against their faction. Right now an invader can do whatever he/she wants and worst case senario just respawn without any penalties. This would discourage constant reckless attacks for fear of retribution.

I dont really want ppl to know from what faction I am, they may know My Goddess is Shar and that She (my delusions) told me to kill them but that is about it.
I don’t really see much point in intelligence anyway, even at very high levels of intelligence, wizards still don’t realize it would have been smarter to be a sorcerer.

random unidentified raids are fun.

actually, yesterday we were chasing LA party out of our lands, but we lost them and didnt know where they went. finally we entered some other server and started killing low level characters there. then we realized our mistake, it wasnt LA server, but Ragnar's Kin server. OOPS.

Well considering my suggestion nobody would know what faction you're from unless you are killed, more incentive not to get pked while raiding which at this point carries practically no consequence. And no, I am NOT suggesting gold or xp penalties for being pked either.

Let me clarify, I am not aruging that random unidentified raids are bad BUT there should be a consequence for getting killed while raiding which may or may not deter a person. This is again considering my suggestion. *see previous post*
