One of the things that I've noticed is that drow darkness works great, until you have an archer standing outside the circle of darkness peppering you with arrows.
It seems to me that if you're in the middle of a circle of darkness, shouldn't archers (and other ranged attacks) be unable to target you?
Drow darkness... Why are gnoll archers able to hit me?

Not that I can tell. Unless gnolls have an innate ultravision that only works at a distance but that utterly fails when they get inside the darkness. But, I've noticed it other places as well. Where drow darkness does great against NPCs that are within the area of darkness, but that spells can be targeted and ranged attacks can be made against me even when I'm inside the darkness and they are outside of it.

You shold still get the 50% concealment bonus though.
Seems a little low though.
Having the archer firing into the darkness makes some sense, though since they are outside and firing into a huge area they should have to overcome a higher concealment. Maybe make darkness cause 75% concealment vs ranged weapons?

i've sometimes seen wierd things with drow darkness.
1. Were you engaging another gnoll in melee? It often seems that if one can see you the others can happily shoot you through their group telepathy....
2. Sometimes an enemy will target you somehow and not let go even though they shouldn't be able to see you. it seems to happen a lot after casting a touch attack spell (a number of times this has happened after unsuccessfully slay livinging a flamedancer, they just keep jogging towards me and won't give up even after i've run 5 miles through the passageways and left them far behind. they usually catch up just as i've sat down to rest...). often letting them take a swing at you snaps them out of their follow trance and they lose you. This doesn't sound like your problem though.
3. I sometimes have the problem that when switching areas with ultravision and darkness on the darkness messes up, *not just visually*. Enemies will be able to see me while outside the darkness and run to attack me or shoot me with ranged weapons, *until* they enter the darkness, then they're blinded and stop. It seems to get confused with the "i can see but not be seen" status and come to the conclusion that you're not affected by darkness at all. Now i always clear an area and cast my darkness again just after i enter a new one (which is annoying if an area isn't small enough to last the recharge time). Mind you, others don't seem to have this problem, and it was only after changing areas.
