How is parry implemented in NS4. The documentation says "widely". I'm pretty sure I saw someone able to parry without having to be in parry mode. True?
Any more details on parry in NS4?
Also, how does parry work with dual-wielding? Do both weps try to parry? If so, it seems both attack rolls should oppose the one (presumably) made by the opponent. If only the main hand parries, shouldn't the offhand still attack? Or can dual-wielders not parry effectively?
Many thanks.

Broken Bio version, I believe. Up to three parries a round (the first of each 2 second interval). Parry is not worth it, especially if dual-wielding. Way too broken.

Twice I have tried to make a parry character; twice I failed...
The first was a Bard 25 /Barbarian 15, under the theory of very high STR with a scythe (dont want a shield when parrying, right?) for powerful counter attacks. This char had quite a low AC, bein a barb and raging and all...but theoretically it shouldnt have mattered...
(also evinced the broken-ness of the scythe, when I did counter-attack...*sigh*)
He got torn up for two reasons: one was the aforementioned inability to parry 2 attacks at once, as any person with a BAB > 15 or 2 weaps will throw at you. The second reason he wasnt any good was because parry doesnt make a check against any criticals that get threatened. Perhaps it is done to prevent chars like this from having uber-parry skillz, but horrible a AC (i.e. not being dex based). I dunno...
The second character is my recent Ranger 20. Havent gotten around to finishing him, because its too painful to fight those NS guards...they will hit me for sure once a round, because of the double-attack problem...and although the critical problem isnt as noticeable (he uses a rapier, dex based, and large shield for extra AC) vs. NPCs, it still renders parry useless in duels.

But, it's such a draining job that, until you've DMed on an NWN server yourself, you the playerbase, have got to cut the DMs some slack. - Flailer
Well, at least scythe should be fixed in 1.66. Dual-damage types now do the kind of damage that has the highest yield vs. the opponent.
Btw, isn't parry dex-based? So a higher dex opponent would be better, like your ranger. Also, I haven't checked it, but will a shield give penalties to parry skill? It would be silly, I know, but it might.
Any reports of parry going off when not in parry mode?

Yes, it is Dex based...my Bard/Barb got by through a massive song bonus, +5 rings, +7 bracers, skill focuses...I think his check was in the 90s.imom411 wrote:Btw, isn't parry dex-based? A shield does give penalties to parry...guess you cant move as fast to deflect their blow holding it...
I have not seen parry go off without it being activated...this is not to say its impossible, though, as this has occurred with counter-spell quite frequently. Can't ever really get rid of all the bugs.

hahaha, i've had a melee char with full plate armor, 1-H weapon, and a shield be attacked while i'm at a sprint and for some reason the dummy parries. most times it is against a ranged opponent but almost always he is successful. even with a big negative to his parry skills and me not putting anything into it.
when death comes for you and you are not afraid, if he asks why tell him you met me

I'm pretty sure that has to do with the shield. It only does it on ranged attacks... who knows, maybe it's the ranged cover for having a tower shield lol
