What about a Sot now and then?

Post by Sottomer »

Dear all,

I just wanted to share a thought that could help this server and the habitants.

I would like to introduce the Sot, Sot stands for buying some lvls of a specific char for a small amount of money.

Why? Pretty simple: this server needs money, lots of it, and some ppl are slow lvlers... (like me)
So:

Sot 5 .... 10$ ur new char gets enough xp to go to lvl6
Sot 10 ... 20$ " " xp to go to lvl11
Sot 15 ... 30$ " " xp to go to lvl16
No Sot for goin to lvl20, that would be way to nice !

Of course when u choose a lvl adjusted sub race the Sot req will go up, for instance, lvl adjustment+3: Sot 10 ->lvl6 and Sot 15 ->lvl11

Also, u can only buy 2 Sot boost lvled chars pro account, so it's not ment as a money making machine

Now, if u lvl fast enough, then there is no problem... u don't have to spend money (of course u can donate  )

But it requires a lot of DM administration... thats partially true, if u do the money xfer u indicate what u want, for instance: i pay 20$ and mention: "Sot10 useraccount-charname" so don't make ur charnames tooooo long. How will they be able to limit the Sot's to 2/account... i'm sure the Gods can think of something.

For me, it would be a great help coz i try to have fun when i'm on, and of course u can have fun as a low lvl, but i've seen a lot of ns4 and i would like to be able to see the epic areas sometime soon.

I'm eagerly waiting for all ur reactions, i didn't want to put it in Ideas coz i prefer a good Discussion bout it!
To the Gods of this place: u can lvl for free

Well, if I had to guess, I'd probably say the dev/DM's wouldn't go for that idea based on things they've said in the past. While it's a potential good source of income to keep things going, I don't think they want to do the direct pay for play model in a sense. I could be wrong though...

And, as a player, I guess I can't imagine ever doing that. I mean, I don't have that much time to play, but leveling your character is kind of the fun part. If you're desparate, I'm guessing you can get a character to level 16 in a few 4 hour playing sessions, with the right equipment assistance.

But this does bring up the point of funding. I know that the devs are currently looking for funding for bandwidth and such, and they should be - I imagine it's expensive. It boggles my mind that they have done what they've done with their own time and money and minimal (I'm guessing) support from the community. I know I wouldn't have been able to develop a mod like this with the conflicts of work and real life put into the mix. So, I'm extremely grateful for what has been one of most fun gaming experiences I've had - certainly the best for what it cost me. (And yes, I have supported in the past, but not as much as my time here would justify I admit)

If I could make a suggestion about what would probably be the single best stimulus to donations it would be communication. I've appreciated feedback recently from the devs/DMs on giving updates on the server move and relocation. However, I would guess that many (including myself) are hesitant to donate more when for all we know, NS has died on the vine and won't receive any more updates. All this is difficult to say without sounding ungrateful, so I hope it doesn't come across like that. I, like everyone else here, has real life decisions of what to do with money. So, perhaps just a periodic update from the devs to state what the status of development is - even if it's none - would help to show the community that they're still committed to seeing the mod flourish. I'm a software developer myself, and probably the worst flaw I have is not communicating to my 'boss' until the thing I'm working on is done, so if that's the cause, I can relate. But, communication keeps people engaged, interested and hopeful. So, if funding is a problem, that might be a good way to help things out.

Or, you could just tell me to shut up, get out and quit whining about a free game that I've enjoyed for almost 2 years....

What epic areas? Last I checked they _still_ werent in.

Personally I cant stand the idea of being able to simply 'buy' your characters...sure its a way to generate money for the server, but it takes munchkinism to a whole new level.
