Monks - Aren't they natural?
Why can't a monk be apart of The Circle? I thought that they were generally el naturel. I'm talking about Neversummer4 open beta, not sure if 3.5 is different.

Join the Northern Coalition. They allow monks and are (by default) neutral to The Circle.Aric wrote:Ok, I just want my monk to be with a friend who is a ranger (and not Last Alliance...no thank you PK city). Would I be able to take say 1 level Barbarian and the rest monk and stay in The Circle?
But, it's such a draining job that, until you've DMed on an NWN server yourself, you the playerbase, have got to cut the DMs some slack. - Flailer

I don't think you can have Barbarian and Monk classes in the same character anywhere. Monks have to be Lawful, and Barbarians have to be any BUT lawful.
There are 10 types of people in the world.
Those that know binary, and those that don't.

Well you "can" bind in a hostile city, certain people just dont like you to. Consider it really cheap, ect. The thing they need to realize is that certain cities (Dareon coming to mind) dont have a spawn point thats close to the city itself. At least that i can remember. Its either bind in the barracks and save yourself the time of having to go back if you're leveling there and get killed, or bind at the west outpost and have to travel thru at least 5 maps to get back to the city. Sorry, but id rather not waste my time walking when i could be getting xp.

not in any way sense or form.. monks become planar beings....
that's not natural...
not any other class in the crile does such a thing (and pretty much any other *class* for that matter)

In game design it is always best, in my opinion, to fit the flesh to the bone than the bone to the flesh.
One of the biggest reasons, to the best of my knowledge, for the class and alignment (and therefore more class) restrictions was to discourage certain "cheap" builds. In-game this can explained many different ways.
It would be interesting to write-up each faction's take on the various classes (lots of roleplaying games do this, such as the WoD books) so that in-game questions like this can answered without resorting to meta-game reasoning. Just off the top of my head:
The Circle
Monks: Nature's order is beyond our understanding. Those that seek to do so, defy this truth: there is no truth. These men and women desire to live above Nature's ebb and flow. However, their monasteries are paper bastions against Her inevitable triumph over their feeble attempts at comprehension. While we should treat these men and women with the same balanced attitude due all, do not forget what they seek: escape from the circle of life and death!
