Faction Areas

Post by Billiard »

I was wonder if perhaps NS4 factions are each a lot like NS3 as a whole was. That is, since people start out in factions that are geographically separated, each faction would have low, medium, high/epic difficulty areas. This way people could advance all within one faction before striking out into the world. Each factions' areas would be about equivalent to the others in terms of the quality of drops and difficulty to advance, but perhaps each one had some unique things that would eventually lead other factions to want to come to those areas as well. This might be why the devs stated there will be multiple places to level rather than a couple places like IOD, Plane of Air, and LP being full all the time.

If the world is this way, then you might have to be pertty decent level to even cross out of your faction and into another one (since the hard area might be between both), delaying interfaction conflict some, but making it very interesting when it occurs!

Avg level to enter another faction is 7-12 More people in party means you can all be lower lvl. However, that is just to cross the border.. getting inside is another matter altogether.

So then you have to be a decent level to even venture outside the faction boundaries, which means there must be quite a bit to do until level 10 or so within each faction, which sounds promising.

Yes, there are a ton of things to do, and like DD said, getting into a faction's main city for some fun may be a little harder then people think.

Think of it this way.. the faction defenders are the Police, Defence Network, and the entire Military of the US. Are they going to let fifty or one hundred people just walk in and take out the President? Nope. :D

So if the borders between different factions are large, the factions themselves are large, and it is difficult to cross between two faction's territories then how are effective factional wars going to be mounted? There would have to be a very large number of defenders in order for the entire border to be defended to the point where an attack at any point would result in an actual battle (which is the only reason for a factional war its not like there are actual territorial gains to be had :P). Thats just my take on the whole situation.

Arent we kind of having a big whole hearing that may determine the outcome of the presidential election because the military, the police, and the defense network let in some people?

Easy enough for a guild like Co3 that has 15-20 members that play regularly.
Get everyone in a huge party and march in the same direction.

This set up will make it pretty hard for guild members in different factions to party. I mean if all of your guild is in one faction, then you are set and can easily help each other. If you are the sole member in another faction though, you'll be heavily dependent on non-guild members.

The original idea was to have guilds as part of a single faction, not as a separate entity above or between factions.

I suppose that makes sense from a RP point of view, but if my guild is in a faction that does not allow a class I want to try, it would still be nice to be able to test things out in another faction. And once people to get to high enough level you can party with them and such, even if they are from opposing factions. This would lead to both interesting roleplay and better party synergies I would think.

In any event, will it be against the rules to be in a guild that is not based in your faction? For example, I want to make an RDD character but my guild is in LA.

There are no rules concerning guilds right now. Whatever plans the devs have for them are not implemented and I don't suspect they will be until later on after most other things are set.

As far as I know there are no specific rules created by the devs to make a guild play in the same faction. Now of course your guild might want everyone to stay together, but I don't think Joran's gonna smack you for running around with a guild tag when your guild is somewhere else.

Darn you DV posting at the same time!

Well good and good. I am still unsure about using guild tags when not in main guild faction. Of course maybe we should do like OBH and skip tags all together in NS4.

if your in AO and your partying with people in LA, i think it's less of a matter of if your allowed to be in the guild and more of a problem concerning how your faction leaders a dieties are going to react... tiamat can get pretty pissed of and when she gets pissed off it aint pretty.

well this is one of the problems I have with mixing rp and non-rp information. I mean, if I have a character in LA and a different character in AO, why should any deity care? In RP terms (which is the world where deities should be doing their thing) these two characters are completely unrelated!

sorry, i misunderstood your earlier statement. i thought you were saying that you meant to have your AO character partied with the LA characters... in that case, it would be bad.

but what your saying doesnt seem to have any problems with it.
