Update questions

Post by Flailer »

This is in response to Lokey's post on 8/19 about the updates.
Um, maybe I'm stupid, but I didn't understand some of the updates. Can Lokey (or anyone not as dumb as I) elaborate?
- Item property spells have better check now
Does that mean the DC of items such as scrolls and wands have a better check? Didn't know that was a problem if that's the case...
- Undead summon types ok with scrolls or spell cast items
Was there a problem with the undead summons before?
- Spell/hitpoint persistancy (subradial and domain spells will be ok with 1.64 *crosses fingers* )
Does this have to do with spell slots dropping out on a polymorph like Tenser's or for shifters?
- Fail on one is back (saving throws on spells/abilities)
Ooooo! Ooooo! I get this one! Too bad though... :(

Thanks for the update though!

Item property spells like Magic Weapon can be cast as long as the weap has no temporary enchantments. Thought of a better way to track it is all.

Undead summons weren't leveling when cast from a scroll. Since all the blueprints are level 1, kinda hurts when you summon greater undead from a scroll.

Spell slots is a trickier issue...have to see how 1.64 is handling polymorph as yet. This is about restoring your spell ready state from logout/login. Hitpoints/feats are tracked as well.

Looks like the default bioware rest was implemented. The screen goes black while resting.

How about the balance changes? Darkfire does 2d4 on my lvl 21 cleric...why was this omitted?
But, it's such a draining job that, until you've DMed on an NWN server yourself, you the playerbase, have got to cut the DMs some slack. - Flailer

My lvl 13 cleric's darkfire does 1d6 damage now, also Greater Magic Weapon with the same cleric only gets a +2 bonus not the +4 bonus it should be.

Whoops, only other change is darkfire/flameweap. Got tired of the x level means x fire damage, went to dice.

It's level/4 and a 50% chance to go up a step

<1: 1 dam
1: 2 dam
3: d4
4: d6
5: d8
>5: 2d4

Far as I know Greater Magic Weap is per description (level/3 enhance, minimum 1).

On the >5 darkfire.

2d4 really isn't any better than 1d8. ok, ok so its 2-8 on a curve instead of 1-8. but is that really that much better? I suggest just going to 1d10.

thanks as always for the work. I appriciate any update.

Any particular reason why the weapon buffs keep taking hit after hit?

Darkfire/Flame Weapon can reduced in effect by taking Resist Energy: Fire and pretty much negated by Epic Energy Resist : Fire. Then there is Dragon Desciple, resist elements line of spells and fire resistance items which all help negate the extra damage.
Since there are few (none?) sources of elemental soak in NS4, perhaps people should consider taking some defences against these damage types?

I agree. With the rules around character creation in Neversummer, I think everyone has a full character progression mapped out before they start. Is it so hard for a mage to learn an Element Resist spell, or for a fighter to use a bonus feat and take an energy resist:?
