Too nice ppl here?

Post by Tapper »

I have a little problem. Almost every time my young rogue talks with high level characters they give him [censored] loads of gold and all fancy stuff. I try to say no but i'm too polite not to pick them up. IMHO there is already too much gold around in neversummer, tho its only problem i have run to so far.

I really appreciate that ppl want to help new chars but i want to gather my fortune alone. Makes looting much more interesting. Usually i drop my gifts somewhere in woods...

Well high level people are bound to encounter stuff they can't use and can't sell.
Besides the gold they're hoarding isn't really usefull anymore at high lvl due to the absence of shops that would sell something worth spending the gold on.
Third aspect to consider, this server is about faction based pvp, so people will often try to help startups that belong to their faction or is allied to it.
Anyway you should be ashamed of throwing away those gifts, it's like saying 'hey ma, i joined the army yesterday but i went out and tossed the gun and uniform they gave me into the river'
Damn i wish more people would remember what the devs intended with this server, instead of playing it the NS3 style... I mean i encounter hostile players and most of them will just says 'hello' and *try* to walk by me or happily continue what they were doing. This ruins the game for me, i want to get hunted, i want to get killed i want to hunt and kill people. I want the challenge of real pvp, because seriously monster ai is but a joke and doesn't provide much intellectual challenge besides having a good char build.
People that play in NS4 like it's the same game as NS3 ruins the spirit of this server. Actually i can consider myself griefed by any player who doesn't pvp me when they should, as it reduces NS4 to an erzats NS3...

erh end of rant i suppose :P

Good post nargileh, i didnt think it that way. Your(devs) idea about how this should work is really interesting. Shame it doesnt work yet.

Tho I guess it will never happen without little push. Mayby arranged times when one factions attacks enemy city? Like snowball effect, revenge is always sweet. :)

My guess is that if more people would start playing it 'right', with that i mean roleplaying the faction hostility at the very least, it should get alot more interesting. As i've said in another post i've been playing pvp muds for years on end (literally thousands of hours) and on the last one i've been there was all kinds of plotting, scheming, vendetta's, backstabbing, alliances being made and broken ... all on top of the simple fact your [censored] could get jumped by someone at any time. What could make a game more exciting? On the other side you can also go playerhunting, lurk in shadows, waiting for the right time to strike, learn your prey's habbits to find a weakness... or simply charge and scream 'I hope you like pain!' The best times i've had on NS4 so far was when i encountered someone who was a challenge to fight and was willing to take it up.
And oh yeah, it got me killed occasionally, even got killed by someone's summon once which made me lose exp. But it still was a rewarding fight, because that few 100 exp couldn't have given me the rush of chasing down and nearly defeating a mage that had tried to kill me. well he eventually escaped but his pet was still around and finished me.

I'm sure it would also help alot if we had an ingame chat channel for same faction or allies only. Or at least a way to know who's on your side or not. With a faction only chat channel, it should be alot easier to coordinate a faction into a unified force instead of individual players doing their thing in an isolated way.

Who?

Post by Tapit »

Who is this Tapper?? Just kidding. The main reason a lot more people were being generous could be that avendale was down for a bit and some items can not be sold except in avendale. It takes up space and I have not seen any way to destroy items except in NS (and again 4 was down for a bit.) Just remember those same people will be attacking you later on or if they are the same faction they are helping their own.

Or just the fact that people, enemy faction or not, are willing to help out someone new. Do you honestly that there is any faction in existance that doesn't have some members who have sympathy of some sort for their rivals?

Also, if I'm in another city raiding and I happen upon a new player, I don't hesitate in the slightest at offering them gold or items they might find useful. I don't force them on them, but if it's a class item I have no use for, what am I going to do with it anyway? Sell it? I have more gold right now than I'd need to fully fund 3 characters, so I tend to give my extra items away.

Ok, I take it back. :) I finally found my way to avendel few days ago. Problem was to get back to my home town when my soul was binded to temple in avendel. I got killed 5 times when trying to travel home. 4 of them by some lame 1337 guy named something like =[] SEWD 123=%¤&...

Its kinda frustrating if there is level 50 guys waiting on north and south roads. After few tries i got past to north to giant mountain. Guard was prolly getting coffee or something.

Btw is there any other area like giant mountain? Xp there is amazing and its not too hard. Could be good idea to modify caves a bit? In first level they come one by one to doors. Not too challenging.
