Server resets

Post by X-I-L »

It has come to my attention that one of the issues with NS4 Beta is when areas can stop respawning. I expect this issue was reported sometime ago and the Devs are aware of it, yet they havent had the time to resolve the issue yet. However an easier way to at least temporarily fix this is for a server restart/reset, but at the moment this onlu happens when the server crashes which can sometimes take days meanwhile more and more areas stop respawning. Can I suggest that some sort of script is written to reset the servers every few hrs as is if this is possible it would solve this and other issues such as lag and important NPC chars being missing due to death.
I sense a soul in search of answers...

I remember during NS3 when there were scheduled server resets every hour, on the hour (On pacific atleast).
It would send out a warning 5 minutes before hand, then reset.
This solved so many lag/stability issues and this would no doubt solve the broken spawn issues too.
I agree, a scheduled server reset every hour would be a good thing.

It's called a PERSISTENT world... scheduled resets every hour?!? Man, that would suck... why not give 'em time to fix the problems instead of just avoiding them?

reset the server not the database

Post by Levan75 »

From my limited understanding of NS4 coding, I believe NS4 differs in that it uses a database to run the game, and the server access's the database when it needs info, a server reset will not delete or change the database thus making a reset ok, in that it doesnt change persistancy at all,

extrapolating i would also assume many broken spawn issues with ns4 may actually be databse errors or server errors, so a reset would not fix all of them.

Lokey/DD can probably enlighten the technos more, but whats the point. It was the code that interested me in this new NS mod, it appeared to me that with this mod it would have true persistancy despite resets unlike NS3

Ever notice in three how some quests reset when the server did....doesnt happen with jobs in 4 ...neato

Yay, something we can look into thx.

It's the exceptions to the general rules of how the engine works and what will fire when that present the most problems in tough to track down ways.
