jobs for the other factions? Oh wait, forget it

Post by drakbear »

With the amount of brutal raids into each city that occur on a daily (game-time) basis, making these jobs is an exercise in futility. For example, Pepin and Einhard are not in Neversummer City....90% of the time. Probably because they're dead.

Sure, the devs could go ahead and make jobs for the MA and SL...and watch the job-givers get killed real quick. When I made my SL character, the newbie equipment guy was dead, so I was running around with no gear for a long time.

Beefed up town defenses? No, that's not a real solution. Uber NPCs at the front door? Shadowdancing guards, perhaps? Maybe. Anyway, that's my take on it.
I learned it from you, dad! I learned it from watching you!

One of my favorite things about Neversummer, and all MMORPG's for that matter, as been having the freedom of choice. Well, that's all well and good, but at times, bit there times when it can be taken too far. This is one of those times. When your actions directly impact the ability of another to progress in their character's development, there's a problem. As much as some people are going to hate this proposal, I would suggest that only a select few NPC's be flagged 'plot' - job officers and basic equipment vendors. With those 2 groups made plot, I think we can allow people to still kill almost anything they want while allowing the low levels (the only people who really need said NPC's) the freedom to get started on and enjoy a great NWN mod.

I agree, at the very least the newbie vendor should be flagged plot. Starting with only rags and a book really means you need a way to buy a few essential items off the bat.

Why not just make the important NPC's really low level (So they can't drop anything good) and very difficult to kill? I think that would help.

Have you ever tryed to kill Arybeth in the first chapter of NWN ?

She seems immune to damage and she doesn't charge at you...

Meaning : Very important NPC should always be available, especially when they impact on new players.

i think the job npc's get killed quite often for the simple fact that the barracks are full of gaurds. Pepin is surrounded with avendell watch and half-celestial warriors, seems like a good hunting spot. why not just make the barracks just job npc's and newb gear npc's. if there isn't anything to kill why waste your time?
when death comes for you and you are not afraid, if he asks why tell him you met me

Various solutions are being worked on as we move to implement jobs for the other factions. Some of the things we're looking at / discussing include moving the job areas out of the main traffic routes, possibly plotting NPCs, faster respawns, and making certain areas only accessble by characters of Faction "foo" or lower than level "bar".

We not only want the NPCs accessable to the lower level players, we want those players to survive getting to the job assignment areas.

i say the most logical solution to the unique NPC killing "problem" is turn all unique NPC's into bosses! they had to rise to their position through some merit of their own! this goes the same for merchants... it's not like some lvl 1 peon would be able to collect such an immense horde of magic items and gold...

Just one question, how much xp is required to get to level "bar"?
And even if I do get to this level "bar" do I get something special, like free drinks?

I think only Dwarves can get there. ;) And I think we'll make "drinks" another money sink.
