I could be wrong, but don't paladins get 0xp for anything they do if there is an evil Character in the party (in PNP at least)
that and rangers not traveling with more than one other ranger.
Those could have been AD&D 2nd edition rules. I don't remember anymore.
Paladins parting with Evil Chars????
3 rangers in 1E, and it was rather an artificial thing. I believe it was based on one book, and really doesn't have much else going for it as a 'something that must be done'.
I've encountered, at conventions, game groups where there was a paladin and an evil character in the group. Usuaully an evil thief or an assassin. Both got experience, the scenario had to do with them being in a party and combining forces temporarily. In 1E that happened, but the temporary aspect was paramount. It wouldn't be considered unusual for the paladin and evil character to have at each other later on, or maybe not be very helpful during combat in that scenario. Say if one of them needed help, and no other character was available to help, then the other might hold back a bit. They probably would try to be subtle about it...
Of course, that means nothing like 'Zounds ! I must not be too helpful to the evil person in our party !' shouted out during combat. Not very subtle.
Or the very funny happening of an evil player character attemping to join forces with some evil denizen in the dungeon, and discovering to their chagrin that the evil dungeon being saw them as a rival, not a helper. Chop slice...

I remember playing a 2e D&D Computer Game called Curse of the Azure Bonds (second in the "Gold Box" series I think). You couldn't have a pally and an evil char in the same party and you couldn't have more than 3 rangers in the same party.

Does a paliden get an XP bonus for actively seeking out only good characters? Does a cleric get an XP bonus for praying to his god however many times a day? Does a barbarian get an XP bonus for.....doing whatever a barbarian does? No, because NWNs is not a real roleplaying game. Until you give the characters points for roleplaying, its probably not a good idea to look for ways to subtract points for not.

It was my impression that that was part of the Paladin's requirements for keeping his powers. In 2e at least, Paladins were hard to play since they fall so easily. It ain't easy being green... er, perfect. But XP for playing your role well is something I'd like to see down the road.

I did that in my PnP campaign. Characters that upheld their characters classes, by doing things those characters would do, would sometimes get an extra 50xp for good roleplaying. Its not much for upper level characters, but it is nice for low level characters. And it rewards roleplaying.DrakhanValane wrote:It was my impression that that was part of the Paladin's requirements for keeping his powers. As for paladins falling easily... the criteria in Unearthed Arcana was positively difficult to follow. Charging across one's own troops, killing them in the process, to get at evil ? good grief.
