Summons.. really?

Post by Sodano »

So...
lol

I am having "fun" so far. My rabid pecking chicken that followed me for a few levels was upped to a tusk wielding boar.
I must say the boar was more mighty than the raving chicken. Then I read some info about spell focus conjuration and summons. I thought to myself good times, this will make it a lot better. Took spell focus and greater focus in Conj and then came forth summon III the wolf. Good times, better AB and he had cleave. I figured the days of chickens and boars were gone. Then I leveled and was fortunate to take Summon IV. So yeah..... now I have this Bison that follows behind me.. roars here and there and eats grass all day long. There will be a screen full of enemies and he is eating grass. He will go over and headbutt someone perhaps if I am lucky.. but then goes back to eating grass. Did I do something in a incorrect order???? If its worth the wait for summons I'll be patient. Please inform & thank you for info

You can get your summons to attack (or not attack) by using the radial commands you get by right-clicking on them. The summons here are actually pretty good, and can help quite a bit in levelling. Also, if you don't like a particualr summons, you can always use the lower level spell to get back the summons you did like. THe cow's pretty useful, tho - his moo stuns or fears hostiles.

Check the wiki for more details.

Voice commands also work "vwe" will make him attack (also if you type /a into chat your summon will attack what you attack)

Yes guys I am aware of the radial menu and the voice commands.
I do appreciate your tips but I just sit there laughing at that Bison.
I am looking forward to the Mino though

The key is to lure him close enough to the combat before you engage the enemy and then tell him to attack. For some reason summons don't like to listen to you once you start fighting. Often times you will have to make your summons follow you after you transition and then lure the mobs back to the summons before telling it to fight. After that you can join in the fray and use /a to actually have him fight your target.

Bison needs a little encouragement. he needs a couple rounds to start mooing then after the mooing he's pretty good to go

My low HP wizard only gets a few rounds to survive w/ the bison's "help"
lol. Running circles and waiting for him to stop eating just pops a large amount of AOP from hostile

I am just using lower level of spell summons now instead of him.
They are much more effective. Sad for the spell slot waste though :?
Still looking forward to the mino

Summons vary depending on the spell and your alignment the best summons that do not need a class is the dragon knight i think the good DK the solar is the best.

the best summons are the 30 lvls of PM or the epic BG one i think that gets a boost at 25 bg lvls and 30 bglvls

Aside from bonuses to summonds from spell focus conj, or clerical domain Animal. Your summons will also grow stronger with your lvls. Keep in mind that any bonuses the summons get from feats, domains, etc. Are ONLY applied if you summon them ouside of combat. Any summon cast duing combat will just be the generic version.

The solar is a nice summon but it falls out of line with what you would expect if you cast planar ally. The previous summons from planar ally all heal themselves, are immune to KD and generally get straight to the action. The solar casts earthquake, blade barrier and dispell before it gets into battle, it does not cast a healing spell either. The balor on the other hand casts harms (with auto quicken) before it gets into battle, which can be good or bad(vs undead it will heal). Balor I think would wipe a Solar any day of the week.

Balor leads with a single pulse attack, then casts (up to) 2 dispels, then 2 harms, then it gets to the face smashing.

Good stuff,

I forgot about the fact that summoning out of combat is a better version.
I am just glad to find a good server. Its been a long time since I have been really looking forward to logging onto something to play. The way this server is setup really allows one to appreciate their char as they grow even with the hardships.

Thanks again for the info
