Do The Math

Post by DM_Kim »

I watched 3 level 6 PC's running around on the Mountain Top killing Treesmachers, Blood Drinkers and Chunkers that were harmed. Because of their ab being so low it still took about five minutes to kill any one of them off. The XP they would have been getting would have been close to 100.

If they had stayed down around Dark Forest and worked the Ogres with the same buffs and without the Ogres being harmed or cursed they would be getting close to the same XP. Plus the would have been able to kill off 3 within 5 minutes. With each level gained their XP on Ogres would have increased pretty fast to where around level 9 they would be getting XP in the 180 range per kill. Whereas doing the Giants at level 9 they still would be taking long per kill and getting a little over 100 because of the Giants CR.

Here is why the CR min and max range on spawn was brought into play. When NS4 expanded to level 40 PC's, (at one time NS4 was capped at 25 player levels) people were getting there by killing rats that gave up 10 XP per kill. Not Giants, not Gnolls, not Amazons, not anything else. Rats of all things. There were a couple of areas where they spawned in huge numbers and fast. These players did their XP math.

If you do the math, XP per hour with time it takes per kill, resources used (heals or rez) you will find that at lower levels Less IS More. If you get power buffed by a level 40 PC the kill rate goes up and without needing the spawn to be harmed or cursed song. Ergo more fun.

If you really think that the first few levels to level are boring, ask any player with an ECL 3 PC what it is like from level 35 to 40.

PS. Those PC's were lvl 6 when one of my PC's was at lvl 5. The next day I took my PC to lvl 9 solo by staying with my PC's range for kills. When I logged in as a DM, I check on the 3 from the night before, they were only lvl 7. So much for going to the "big kills" and faster leveling.

Why would I want to count 12 hours twice? I’m perfectly capable of counting to 24, and while we’re at it, can someone go shoot named time zones. GMT+x is all we need!
