Do any parties here use DKP for loot?
Do any parties here use DKP for loot?
I just rolled a 4 for the third 10-man run in a row, so you can probably guess I didn't get anything good. I'm not upset at the people who DID get good rolls, I'm just saying that when the loot division is based on random chance, it will only get "evenly distributed" over an infinite number of rolls. So for people like myself, who consistently roll 4's and 6's when it's time to loot, it takes forever to get geared up, while another person who has been luckier (and has been on the same number of runs) gears up exponentially faster.
Do any parties use the DKP system? Where players receive a point for each boss down and are allowed to build up points and spend them? I mean, I'm Lv. 40 and I'm still using the Skara Belt, store-bought rings, Lv. 30 gloves, and a Crystal Necklace. This whole "getting nothing for 3 hours of work because of bad luck" is getting old.

You'd need a guild for that, otherwise theres no point really.

In an epic area such as this, it evens out if we had been there long enough. There is almost always enough drops for everyone to get one of something. Given that you had to leave early, we had only cleared two bosses at the time. However, if you had stayed, you would have certainly gotten something. You chose to leave without taking anything, even though you got a 4, there was plenty of area gear there. Others had just as low a roll... we only had 3 that rolled above a 10 as I recall out of the whole group.
Additionally, a lot of people generally allow selection from the Top (highest roller) to Bottom (lowest roller) and then Back Up, kind of picking where the high rollers go first, then all the way down, then the last person picks twice and back up from the low rollers... so when there are a lot of items even the lower rollers get some better mid range items.
The roll dice are random, you will not consistantly roll only low numbers nor high numbers, no matter how demonic the dice seem to be treating you at the time. (believe me, I've had my share of 1s). Just consider it as you saving up that 20 for that time a +4 book is in the works.
A death point system is only going to satiate heavy damage dealers... what about the sneak that acts as a draw, opens doors and gets traps triggered... or the cleric that acts as a general buffer/raiser/healer... or the counterspelling sorcerer. At least with dice rolls, everyone has a random chance to get a high number at any given time.

Re: Do any parties here use DKP for loot?
I was with a party on Saturday morning who won in an area not ever seen before. The winning roll was a 5. lol.
Another story -one of shame's favorites- we went to kill Moltach the dragon and i really wanted the cloak. Once again the whole party was rolling low. I only had to beat a 9 to pick first. So I paused then waited, waited, (shamed says, "don't roll a 1 Glow") lol. So I rolled a 1.
You'll get your rolls. Play the long term odds.
And as for your gear,... well we were all that way just two months ago. 40's running around in rags. You'll get caught up.

If its gear ya want you should party in small parties with a handpicked elite.
BTW the gear your using is pretty decent. Most of it is only 1 stat point away from top gear.

Depends on the build, that +2 ac could knock confirmed crits in half, etc...
Use enticements: craft a pile of raise dead/heals/craftables for example and bribe people to go help get a specific item you want. Gold/trade, etc...

Re: Do any parties here use DKP for loot?
yep.. store bought rings are quite good and i think all my 40 toons use them (excepting a few slave rings which are also lv 16 gear). crystal necklace is top shelf on a lot of toons because of the saves.. along with merfolk helm it never comes off.
one of my lv 40s had on a skara belt too until very recently, because the stats on it are better for his build than just about anything else.
i wouldnt worry too much over the level of the gear you're wearing, a good chunk of "level 40 loadout" gear is actually lv 16-20.

Find a group and go after specific gear. Ask them if you can have dibs on the stuff you're looking for, and help them get stuff they're looking for.

Most of my guyes end up with crafted lvl 30 gloves belt and amulet, and most of the armor shealds and weapons my builds end up with are lvl 30, nuthing wrong with lvl 30 stuff.

Think about how long it takes to equip multiple toons with top-tier gear! It becomes even harder if you have toons based on the same gear too (sneaky boots or white lord robes, etc). I tend to make my toons with some diversity because of this lack of gear, that way, when you get the lower end picks of gear, you have a better chance of getting something useful for one or another of your toons.
Some may disagree with me here, but I prefere to get epic gear with a sub-40 toon, that way you are at least profiting from the xp. Having a few toons at 30+, all harvesting gear, will take longer to get them all to 40, but you will be better able to utilize what gear you do find. But having one toon at level 40 with 100k xp over seems like a waste of xp, when you could have been leveling another toon in the same party and gaining levels.
And yes, getting small parties with specific goals can pay off much more than a general XP run with a group of 10.

It also helps to go on runs understanding what type of party it is and what you'll get out of it. I've been on runs where the intent was just to farm for gear knowing the xp would be low and slow. I've also gone on runs to get xp for me specifically for me getting perfect type of help from the party but not expecting much gear. I've been on runs after 40 just trying to help push others to 40 in the same way. Again not expecting much gear. Its pretty rare that you accomplish all of those at high levels. Some are good gear runs some are good xp.

Well, I'm going to track all of my rolls from now on just to amuse myself. Thanks for the tips, though.

I remember running around with shishio one day for a bunch of runs . . . think he rolled something like 3-5 consecutive 1's for loot.

Nothing will ever compare to beating DWP and then rolling a one and getting nothing.
