I am thinking of making a drow wizard with 5 shadowdancer lvls and some rouge lvls. I want to be primarily a caster, but with the ability to hide and sneak attack. So the question is, how may rouge lvls? I was thinking 5 rouge 5 sd 30 wiz, but was wondering if it would be better to take 10 rouge instead. The fact i'm not sure about is if the additional 5 wiz lvls will have that significant an effect on my spells' power at the higher (30+) char lvls. Any advise on this topic or reasons why more/less lvls of a certain task should be taken.
Thanks!
Drow wizard/sd build
Re: Drow wizard/sd build
Lots of things to consider actually, most of those your style end up monk/sd/wiz. Speed hips and spells. The problem there is youre looking at max 30 wiz levels, so a good dispelling character will be able to destroy all your buff (or atleast most) with 1 spell.
All builds generally are what youre looking to do. Try starting out with a Sun Elf (fav class wiz no ECL) and test what you want, dont use books to anything to get a feel for the chraracter. After that test build see what you like/dont like and enhance it from there.
::General Suggestions::
10 rogue / 5 SD will give you access to Epic dodge (same 9 monk / 5 SD will)
13 rogue / 5 SD will give you Epic dodge and crippling strike
22 wiz levels wont be enough to resist any spells and you will be stretching to even get auto quicken
My guess is youre from Shadow Legion. I built a 13 wiz / 27 assassin character that up to level 25 (when I quit playing cuz I am no longer a DD and cant log the toon) did an amazing job with sneak attacks and such. This character had a devastating paralyze DC and kill DC with lolths poison (I think it was 59/56 respectively) and had HUGE sneak attack damage potential at level 40. You wont have access to the high end spells of the wizard but if you go more dex based to sacrifice the DC a bit you can have a formidable AB, decent AC and enough buffs to get you by on the killing.

Re: Drow wizard/sd build
preferably, your gona whant 5sd/35 wiz, since casters generaly whant as many caster lvls as posible. Alternatly do 5sd/2rouge/33wiz for evasion.
Just so you know it, due to the horrors of horus(wis/sd), the wis/sd combo is added to the equation b4 evry build I plan even gets near the game

Why would I want to count 12 hours twice? I’m perfectly capable of counting to 24, and while we’re at it, can someone go shoot named time zones. GMT+x is all we need!

Re: Drow wizard/sd build
5 rogue and 5 sd seems redundant--both get similar feats and skill list.

The only reasons I'd take rogue and SD:
-1 rogue lvl for umd,
-4 rogue lvls if i'm trying not to nerf max bab/attacks
-lots of rogue lvls for sneak attacks from hips..
(This will be different on NS5 tho, as in nwn2 taking 2 classes that give evasion gives you improved evasion)
My general rule would be, if you are making a caster build, don't have less than 34 caster lvls...any less than that, you would be more suited to be a melee/ranged toon who uses spells to buff & runs around hoping not to be dispelled.
