Timestop taken down another notch?
Timestop taken down another notch?
Ok now TS is only good for either : healing or running away.
The first nerf (removing the ability to cast insta-damage spells while TS was in effect) was ok. People simply got out of the habbit of timestop-max igms x 2 and started thinking more strategicly (do i debuff him, or hit him with a bigs, or buff my summons / myself, ect)
Now you cant cast ANYthing else while TS is active. This was thought neccessary.. why? First solar's are brought down a peg, now mages cant TS to give themselves enough time (especially in a multi player warzone) to bigs or dispell the big threats, before somebody runs up and knocks them on their [censored].

Re: Timestop taken down another notch?
because some ppl found a way around certain spells to use offensive spells without being seen or touched. which goes against what timestop is in the first place, a spell you cast to get the hell out of dodge.
so...with that in mind, all spells dispell timestop. it easier to code all or nothing. so use it to get away, like its supposed to be used. not for attacking.

I havent tested this, and was just curious if someone knows off the top of their head. If you timestop in a room right by the transition... then exit, does the timestop stay for the duration, or does it go when you do?

Re: Timestop taken down another notch?
I dont post this to agree with anyone but rather disagree with you Tep.
I dont care much about the change but my opinion is that timestop is a spell cast by one who has invested great time blood and sacrafice to be a very powerful caster of the arcane.
He who has such understanding of magics that he can effect the fabric of time with his energy. Now people who cast this in my games all they needed to do was walk up and dagger someones throat.
Coup de Grace.
So in this enviroment i think this change is probley for the best. Mages were brought up with the removing of most blanket immunities and balanced with the fact they cant stop you and own your no immune butt.
This is a good change. But timestop is a spell that is not cast to "get the hell out of dodge" i believe that would be haste. Its a spell to own the world by one who has the ego and need for power of an equal size.
And get rid of the damn horses already@!

Haste isn't really get away spell. Timestop now definitely is. Would be too much if you could just spam timestop then offensive spells. Would had no point. Who would survive that? And you don't really need to invest that much, it's just lvl 9 spell.mgrjebbo wrote:I dont post this to agree with anyone but rather disagree with you Tep.

Re: Timestop taken down another notch?
the only fabric of time that time stop affects in PnP is that you move so fast it seems that you've disappeared to others and that others appear to have stopped for you. its not time altering in any fashion
.
in pnp there are also spells you can cast that do not negate it...we tried that, but it was too hard to control good/bad vs pvp and bioware crap engines. so now...its purely a save your butt spell.

Re: Timestop taken down another notch?
Mages casting during timestop would be an "I win" spell... we've seen it happen before. Mages are a serious force already.

Yeah in this format i completely agree its to much.
In pnp back in the good old days, you rarely got 9th level spells before some real life thing came up and the campaign ended and followed with one of the other guys in our group running a different game. Not to mention it took FOREVER to get to that level if you didnt run a cheesy game.

I thought it was for casting Maw of Chaos and then moving out of blood spatter range?Amoenotep wrote:because some ppl found a way around certain spells to use offensive spells without being seen or touched. which goes against what timestop is in the first place, a spell you cast to get the hell out of dodge.

Re: Timestop taken down another notch?
If material components were using in NWN I think we could balance things alot better with spells, some spells (I forget timestops) require some CRAZY things. One thing I remember from PnP days was trying to become a lich, you had to kill a monster and take a body part withing 24 hours, another monster part within 48 hours, SEVERAL SEVERAL of these things were required and couldnt be "Well well get there when we get there" thing. It was hardcore dedication to do it. Some spells require such things too... so mages be happy ';)
