Yes we do try to get around your magic, it's called beating the crap out of you with the only thing we have, our sword. However It doesn't matter how hard we hit you because your lovely armour patched up your only weakness.

Is the general gist here is that there's one right way to play a melee type? If you don't play that way (get IKD, don't specialize in a weapon but use your skills on other stuff and carry a weapon of each damage type, etc.), you're SOL and shouldn't be wondering about balance. Is that how NS4 really wants things to go? Just post the sanctioned "melee build" on each faction's board and be done with it? Seems kinda dull.

Hmm... Don't you folks plan ahead ?

For mages I mean.

I don't know that much about 3E.

But it would seem to me, a mage would use spells according to the level of monster encountered.

If your mage encounters a giant, use the Kaboom.

if a rat, use a weaker spell.

No need to use an planetary shattering kaboom spell on a low level creature, like a skeleton or rat. Thats a wasted spell.

Slow down, you have to make those spells last.

Ya may need the Kaboom later.

Are you people even putting some thought into this? Billy the fighter? Fred the wizard? What the? This isnt about 1.5 times the carrot of 76235 divided by the average damage of a pretty high roll of 1d6 on the 10 dice of Fred the wizards fireball....

Ok....Ill try one more time.
Billy the fighter, fred the wiz, freds gear doesnt mean squat, all he needs is a +4 int helm at lvl 20 for this particular example.
Billy has 12 base fort at 20, his CON is 16+4 (taking a rather high con as example, most fighters will have 12 or 14 CON) which means a +5 mod, he is also using his leet belt with +3 fort saves, and his even leeter armor of +3 supa death saves. So against death magic his fortitude save will be 12+5+6 = 23. Freddy started with 18 int, added +5 int total from lvl up, is using his totally leet pot helm of +4 int and is smart enough to use maximized fox's cunning, so his int will be at 18+5+4+5 which ends up at 32, thats an 11 Modifier. Freddies FoD DC will be 10+11+7(FoD is lvl 7...), +4(focus)ends up at 33. Billy needs to roll a 10 to save, anything lower and he explodes like a cat in a microwave. So poor billy needs to be lucky on those 6 FoDs freddy has at lvl 20 because if hes as lucky as the average fighter, he aint gonna live long enough to charge into battle shouting "Blueberry pie". Seeing as billy has a 45% chance to die, he aint gonna survive 3 of em unless he drinks a potion of roll 20s. Those potions dont exist, so billy aint gonna beat fred the wiz most of the time even when completely naked and just using his leet pot helm, simply because the devs have seem to forgotten the importance of a decent amount of SAVES on gear. Now they also decided to add immunity and resists for some *@!&^!ed up reason, Ill leave those out since DDs posts made me realize they aint gonna change it.

Nerfing everything wont do jack **** cause even if Sally the Sexy Sorceress can only sleep in an inn because she doesnt know what Billy the fighter that hasnt seen a good looking woman in 3 weeks since he was at NS gates getting fodded by Fred the wiz will do to her while shes sleeping outside on the floor in avendell, shes still gonna FoD his buttocks when she has em simply cause he doesnt stand a chance saving it.

Hope Im understood this way, aswell as made people see what the real problem is. And if someone suggests to ban death magic then Ill just...

you guys are all talking about 1 type of weapon blah blah blah.......

i mean, this game isn't so 1 dimensional.......what about paladins with divine favor, and divine might? unresistable divine and magical damage per HIT.

yea, you read that right, did ya ever think of that?

what about the fact that they can enchant any weapon to +5 on hit dispel? (stoneskin and premo wont save you then)
think of that too did ya? well, did ya?

I have no interest in playing a paladin, I want to play my fighter/rapier master, and have him be effective... because that's what i like to play

If i was going choose my class based on how effective they are in the current changing beta test state of NS4, I'd play a wizard and blow everyone up, but I don't want to do that, (at least not for my first and main character on the server) and I shouldn't have to change class to survive.

Do you know what a paladin is?
Lemme tell you: Only thing able to beat a paladin is a sorc with high enough AC(and in epic lvls a good sorc WILL have enough AC).
A paladin is just as bad as a bard or a DD...pfft like any melee char stands a chance vs a bard that lowers your disc and conc by 7, raises his own disc and taunt by 7 (aswell as lower your AB by 2, and AC by 5) then taunts you(since the difference will be 14 from song alone, you stand no chance to resist it) and lowers your AC by another 6. Were talking plain melee here m8, because Polly the Pally isnt gonna suffer once she has lvl 4 spells and can just dispel Freddies buffs with 1 hit aswell as spam KD him at the same time. The sad part is however, that Polly the Pally normally saves every single FoD because of saves, while she now only has a rough 80% chance to survive, but polly has death ward, so any n00b mages(which we have enough of here in NS) wont know what hit em. What about poor Billy the Fighter? He doesnt have a fraction of the chance to survive that Polly has.

can someone lock this tread?

the ppl that complain that mages are to powerfull say on avarage that they dont want to use anti mage tactics,

and the in PnP you cant rest when you want, opinion while valid, in PnP a mage needs 9 hours to recharge his magic (8 hour rest 1 hour mamorisation) the heal skill in PnP cures 1d3 hp mad or 2xlvl if you tend somone all day. besides that in PnP the higest spell in a potion is lvl3.

peeps one word of advise do not use your ns3 tactics, use yoour mind and develop new ones.

about teh WM its extremely powerfull learn how to use a WM and to all tanks DO take KD if you want to be in the running.
I don’t really see much point in intelligence anyway, even at very high levels of intelligence, wizards still don’t realize it would have been smarter to be a sorcerer.

Funny how a fighter spam KDs me for like 20 seconds and I take 5 dmg on each hit or so, then when finally at injured I get off a few isaacs and he falls over dead.
Thats considering my mage is lvl 16 and weakling compared to when Im lvl 19, having 40 disc and 42+ AC.
Go on and say that people need to develop tactics and certainly dont remove immunity/resists, because once beta ends and casters can get to lvl 30+ real fast there wont be any fun in playing anything but a caster. But who cares right? As long as your the one able to play the caster and own the ones trying to be original by playing a fighter your happy, right? And should they complain about it...hey its their fault they dont have the tactics to play a caster.

Exactly... it'll be a lovely "low magic" world populated only by characters who weild massive magical power and slaughter the few brave enough to try any other class... can't wait to see a party of ten pale masters from MA walk into neversummer and set off ten hellfire balls, I wonder if it'll crash the server }: P --add sarcasm liberally and stir until smooth--
