If the Wolves are at a CR of 10 and still retain their breath, then something is seriously, seriously wrong. That was the deadliest part about them, the part that made them such a high CR. Remove the breath or tone it down a ton, because otherwise having CR 10 Wolves killing level 18 players with no evasion is just retarded (2 sprays of breath can do around 40 damage last time I recalled).
If you fail the save (Reflex DC 19), ONE breath does 40 damage. The problem comes when you get swarmed by 6 or more of them at once.
Niragawa, I've found them once. Went into their little base, killed everything, and left. Tried remembering where the heck they were, but I never could. Now I just see them hitchiking on the side of the road to The Circle .
Did Niragawa last night. CR in the base varies from 4 (Scout) to 12 (caster). Seemed kinda small. Unless they drop some kind of unique loot, I don't have much reason to go back.
Have they been changed since the last time I was here? Been only a few weeks maybe, but if I recall last time my group had 2 clerics and 2 mage (a wiz and a sorc) in the skellies yet the xp was still terribly slow even pre-epic.
Yes. If I build another cleric, he's going there at level 16, especially if he has Sun (extra castings of Sunray).
I think the problem with the wolfs where that they hit diffrent characters wery diffrently, I've had characters that had trouble with them at about 16ish, while others could at lvl 11 or 12 run around durena peaks gatering all of em, then I can go make some food and have gatered a few k xp when I come back... I'm gona do some exploring agen to find places soutable for me now
Well...
Been lvling my Dire Mace Champ, havent read the forums in a few day's and didnt even know about the cr change untill someone told me last night, and didnt even go there untill i was 15th lvl.
I've used just about every place from the Yaun-Ti Wastes, Haddon Mirk, Duerguar, Formian Mines, Duskhaven, Old Wym Rd and sourrounding area's, ran into the dragon and ran like hell, Bottomless Pit fell off got stuck had to have a DM put me back on the bridge, all sorts of adventures, and i do mean adventures cuz instead of power lvling, i'm just exploreing All over includeing Ash Mnt area's, which i havent been to in some time, just cuz these area's arent soo populated and crowded and in a matter of less than a week have managed to nab lvl 16, oh yeah, visited Gnolls a couple of times to just for grins.
Point being, no one needs FD for lvling, it can be done easly with other area's, explore and enjoy, you will be surprised as the sites you see
It isn't even really a question about leveling anymore. Of course there are other places to level the problem is that wolves are far more powerful then a CR 10 implies. Yesterday I realized as I ran my 30th level Druid from Ice Giants to FD they chewed me up and practically spit me out. A character with no evasion has a hard time with wolves especially if they simply try and ignore the "nuissance" and run through them. Even with a small spawn of about 6-9 of them running after me if I paused for just a moment in my travels I usually ended up near death. So now they are more of a waste of time and resources then anything else. I know that even at 30th level I wouldn't get any xp even at CR 16 but for lower level characters they still can pose a major threat.
Watch for a J ____ (TSS) or Kama Kaze (TSS) on the server during evenings (Central Time)--I've got a Frozen Dire Mace you can use. Free since they're so unused. I like to encourage the unusual.
Might someone tell me what was wrong with the FD layout pre-wipe? It didn't seem all that bad to me. I always thought that the giant bosses should be at the peak anyways. The paths that lowbies use to get to Avendell seem to have plenty of unused cave entrances that could be used for extra 12-20 areas.
