Thank you Frendel of reposting the simple information we asked for.

Maybe some editing is in order for some people? They have till the 30th.

First thing we will do is throw out any post that didn't follow those instructions.

Re: Official Guild Roll Call

Post by Ajantis. »

I've taken awhile because I've wanted to make sure my thoughts are clear and I don't digress too much in this upcoming rant.

I want to state how misguided this whole roll call is and its out dated and harmful in general it is to the server.

The guilds have been the backbone for this server, and have largely given the server the longevity it has had to date. In many ways, the guild system has out lived it usefulness, as everyone has their own personal mules now, and have played the game long enough to at least play proficiently, if not expertly, as to no longer need the build support it traditionally has given players. The only thing it really provides today, is some factional loyalty, and for many, a sense of home and familiarity for those who have played a long time.

Now I realize this isn't meant to be a referendum on guild support, but I'm going to tell you it is, and this server is too old to be shaken up and be subjected to tides of change like this. It needs to be handled carefully, as the population will continue to decline despite anyone's best efforts to keep it relevant. The most we can hope for is stability, familiarity, and participation. I realize there is a "rule" or a tradition of guild roll calls, but times have changed and the necessity to create space for new arrivals doesn't exist anymore. It now does more harm than good.

If we are to think that shuttering some guild doors will give some openings to others who desire to form their own new guild, and breathe some new life for pvp battles, I'm going to tell you that won't happen. Instead the consequence will be of greater significance, as players move leave because they will feel it's apparent they are no longer wanted.

However, if a group of players had desired to form a new guild and space was needed to accommodate them, I would fully understand the need for some sort of official guild roll call. But even then, they should perhaps be encouraged to take over an existing vacant guild first (assuming one exists). Let's be realistic here.... The Furys became official after a year or so of being nomads, only to then have to wait over a year for the Devs to complete and implement their guild hall. Does anyone think it's going to be any different now? If it is, only to wait longer next time. Heck, look how hard it is to move a relic war trophy!

I also question the timing for this. The server population waxes and wanes with the seasons. Spring and Autumn are traditionally the slowest time for server participation. Right now school is starting, vacations are over, schedules tighter, it's just not a good time to evaluate game play. This winter would be a better gauge for this, and historically have had the highest participations. Doing this now is counter productive.

I already fear too much damage has been done. Even now I'm lacking the motivation for new build generation as I wondering if the DMs are purposely committing server suicide, as they grow weary of Neversummer. Giving themselves an excuse to walk away.....or they're just bored. Perhaps its just a bad evaluation of opportunity costs in decision making. Even the tone of the criticism on how players have posted on this forum thread has been regretful. The DMs have the vantage point to know who and where everyone is playing, this is an activity of redundancy. Worst yet, they are forcing people to choose sides, and pick favorites when its not necessary at this point.

Lastly, I don't fear anything happening to my guild, however I don't know if enough CLAD guild members who will post in time or not. If they don't its not because we don't have enough participation, it might be because I didn't put forth enough effort to make sure everyone has posted correctly, but I'm not playing this game for that burden. No one should.

I got half way though your post AJ and came up against the same misconceptions many were reading into my original post, of something I believe I put very simply. I'll try again. (I did of'course finish your post AJ, before completing this one)

Failure to provide 5 players to a guild does not remove its official status, its guild hall, its tag or anything else you can bloody think of. If at some future time, a group of 5 or more players not involved in other NS4 guilds, wants to create their own. The can petition to replace one of the guilds that doesn't have 5 active members.

At that point the residing (existing) guild has 30 days to show they now have 5 active members, they can be bloody new recruits for all it matters. As has been so pointed out, growth be minimal so consider the odds of 5 new players ousting any of our long lived and yes, appreciated Guilds of NS4.

Once a person understands the above, it makes most of the comments throughout the thread moot. It seams most were assuming it was a pass or fail situation, which is clearly isnt. And as most comments were based around that mistake, I will not address them individually. I hadn't responded sooner largely on account that the most noise was from people who did not get or chose to ignore the most basic request in the original Roll Call post. Despite a very clear example provided.

My thoughts are, if you don't bother to read the post your commenting about...

As for concerns that some guilds players don't use this forum. The guilds are of NS4, this is the NS4 forum, if they can log into and play the game enough to be considered active then they can take a couple minutes and log into the best resource for toon building in Aetheria.
