Actually, with all the vast plains around Garagoth, I would think Rangers would make a decent addition... it makes sense to me that SL doesn't allow rangers, but MA not so much. I'm actually surprised RK allows Rangers and Druids.
MA seems no less suitable for Rangers than any other faction except TC...

I wouldn't be entirely opposed to rangers and druids in MA...
...but RP wise, Rangers and Druids typically have to have some degree of respect for life and the natural order.
MA is all about completely disregarding any supposed natural order and reshaping reality to their will through arcane power.
This is why TC and MA hate each other.

I would think NC would be MA's bigger rival (not in player base, but RPwise)... being very non-arcane (allowing bards as an exception), while MA is very arcane. Also, NC has the biggest hatred of undead, and MA characters commonly summon undead.
Again, it seems that if RK is going to allow rangers, MA should too. I mean, RK live deep underground... no light, no plants... hardly anything living at all...
MA, like SL, is a very rogueish faction (hence the tiefling rogue guards), and rangers (who can be anything from lawful good to chaotic evil), are known for hiding among the shadows (they get HiPs outdoors in 3.5 edition). For the same reason RK shouldn't have rangers, SL doesn't have them either, and that's cool, as they have a pretty nice class selection. MA has the smallest class selection however, and the notion that rangers are do-gooders is nonsense... they can be just as evil as a blackguard or an assassin.
I'm personally less inclined to allow druids, but rangers seem pretty fitting... the notion of nature's balance is more of a druid thing than ranger.

I seem to recall arcane magic use being a much bigger issue for TC than for NC. I think it was actually mentioned in one of TC's conversations...
...anyhow. I would agree that MA would likely be hated more by both NC and TC, but more so by TC because of their stronger feelings agasint arcane magic.
(NC always seemed to show more, "We're not gonna use the stuff cause it's unholy etc..." while TC was "We're not gonna use the stuff because its an affront towards nature and all those who do use it, thereby threaten nature and must be put down to preserve the natural order.")
If there is one faction I forget exists the most, it would be SL. They seem to be pretty much concerned with whatever it is they do in the underdark. I haven't played SL extensively, but it seems to have the least extra stuff, so its difficult to comment on them. I can think of no immediate reason why they shouldn't have rangers or druids but then, I'm also no expert on drow...
Being underground doesn't really matter much when talking about life. There are lots of living things undergroud. They're just smaller so you dont notice them, dwarves for example. There ARE plants AND animals that are perfectly suitable for living underground.
On the relationship between druids and rangers, they both share a respect and acknowledment of the natural order. Druids are just much better at it. Rangers are what you would get if you crossed a druid with a fighter.
On a slightly different note, I completely agree rangers are not necessarily do-gooders. The campaign for NWN2 actually has an evil ranger which exemplifies this well. He may be evil, but he STILL has an acknowledment of the natural order. The natural order is neutral, not good.

If anyone has read any material concerning the underdark there is a huge amount of flora and fauna present. I mean it is its own biosphere. Using that as a base of logic then SL should have rangers as well. Regarding MA, there really isn't a good reason not to let rangers in MA, I mean its not like its overpowered or anything.LinuxPup wrote: Again, it seems that if RK is going to allow rangers, MA should too. A chaotic evil ranger will use nature to capitalize on his own selfish desires... he'll empathize and lure a bear just to have it maul innocent children and then get killed by the town guards. The bear was a convenient tool and was too stupid to know what it was getting into as far as the ranger is concerned. This type of manipulation fits us people of Garagoth well.
And rangers aren't necessarily neutral at all, which is why the alignment restrictions don't reflect that. Rangers and Druids are very different... their alignments need not be anymore similiar than any Cleric and Paladin.

well its true that the underground has its own flora and fauna the 2nd edition complete book of druids had some awesome kits in it from memory one was spider related it was pretty cool actually, also underground from my pen and paper readings material - fungi and mushrooms as well as underground bodies of water with there own ecology take the place of the typical druid/ranger = forest
On a side note the above druid book had a desert druid kit that tendered to an oasis and surrounding wildlife. As well as this the 3rd ed druid can be neutral evil so while they probably wouldnt hold much with undead abominations i actually see no reason they cant be in SL same with rangers
Rangers are trackers and pathfinders also and what better place for them lol the mysterious and easy to get lost underdark.
Also a thought perhaps wrong but wasnt dritz dourden ( horrible speliing of it no doubt) a duel wielding good drow ranger ?? the beauty of D&D is that anything is possible not all drow are evil, not all orcs are stupid and indeed lol not all dwarves are ale swilling axe wielding brutes
Having said all this its once again coming down to a balance issue for the server i feel. This exact monk thing was asked a while back by me before i left and it was almost immediately nocked on the head with a NO!
cant find the post i made if i do ill post it here anyways thought id add this note cause some ppl were ahem stereotyping rangers and druids as forest classes only and they certainly are not just that though it is of course the most common type
