If you're going to be pedantic, at least make damn sure you're right.
I don't believe you can use the plural form of "player" in that sentence. An alternative would be to rearrange the sentence like so:

I thought editing the wiki was the job of all players.

phpBB doesn't like the parentheses in that url :(
Ok, you win.

Note to self, if you're going to be pedantic about someone's pedantry, make damn sure you're right.
don't give up so fast: i'm pretty sure you can use the plural possessive " players' " in this instance:

consider the following distinction between singular possessive and plural possessive (both correct as far as strunk & white is concerned): Mother's Day vs Parents' Day.

while you certainly can rephrase to get rid of the possessive there's nothing wrong with using players' as far as i can see.

I believe you could use either if you creatively decide where to bind the determiner. The most natural parsing of the sentence is:
(a player)'s job. = the job belonging to a player.
where player must be singular because it uses 'a' as the determiner. But if you parse it considering 'players'' as an adjective describing the 'job' then you could use:
a (players' job). = a job belonging to players.

Ok, I just asked on a writer's (writers'?) site I belong to - figured they'd know. Apparently not :D

I never thought for a second this would have become a precursor to English 101.

My head hurts, I'm confused, and I feel stupid now. I like the picture idea.
