NWN2 is a long time away. Who knows if they will put out the toolset like they did with this. The amount of work we had to redo that bioware messed up is insane so nwn2 will not be pretty.

We have a had some dev issues and real life set back in the last 6 months, but we are on track and slowly getting some work done.
Currently NS4 development consists of Lokey and myself with Lokey doing most of the updates and me doing the server issues.

NS3 has alot more support and has seen alot of great updates in the last few months.

Neither will die nor go away until there are no more players to log on.

Hell, people still play Diablo II.

As for Beta. Your right. It will probably always be a beta. It started out as a beta because we were trying to get funding to do a full blown game.
After that fell thru and Joran and Moogy left, we decided to just keep it going for the players and to have a little fun.

We will always add as we can and try and keep a good dm staff to keep it fun.

Enjoy, Complain, post, suggest. As long as you are playing we are happy:)

And the epic areas have been sitting at 70% for 7 months. Just have to get the time to get them done.

Id rather focus on getting some quests in but who knows.

For now I will spend the next month tweaking frost and sunken based on posts from players.

seriously.
hopefully.
that excuse ran out after the first 2 years of beta

And i'm sorry for this, but i have to "LOL" at the fact nwn2 will probably be out before ns4 comes out of beta.

OR get more people on dev?
As i've stated before, i've got a server box that's been up 24/7 for well over a year that could be used as a server host, and i have more time on my hands then you would belive... but noooo.... i PK.

Code: Select all

-bash-2.05b$ uptime

I read the NWN2 forums and see a few of the devs occasionally in irc. It's about a year before we see anything tool-wise and probably longer until release, but soooo many headaches dealing with NWN1 are already gone. Obsid is aiming for the whole kit: client, server, dm client, tools. What they're saying area building will be is paint down terrain (tiles in some fashion) and things like buildings, trees and so on will be placeables. Also the toolset can resize models to a certain extent and on and on...areas will be slower to build but we'll be able to use the same resources to make things look vastly different.

Plus at least some of my eternal complaints about NWN have a big DONE sticker on them!

The only downside I can think of so far is creating artwork (models and textures). It uses the new pixel shader which means no open source tools can be used to make content (at least easily that we know of). It's $3-4k for 3dsmax7 or nothing :x

If I had a nickle for every firm that used, erm, "liberated" software for CAD, imaging, layout, & modeling, I'd have enough spare cashflow to hire a decent collection agency.
