Attitude adjustment.
Re: Attitude adjustment.
Some of these newer planar areas (dragon eyrie, celestia, and abyss) are obviously very hard... but that's because the gear they drop (especially the bosses) is very good. I err'ed on the side of too easy with Dragon Eyrie, so there was some changes to correct that. It's better to err on the side of too difficult than too easy.
Kultach and Molech's gear deserve a real fight. I think when you see some of the gear from the bosses of Abyss/Celestia you'll know why I made it so difficult... it'll be gear that you won and that hardly anyone else has on the server, not farmed gear.

@ Ade: I would think your adventures on this server may be better served in the Bearded Bard thread as a tale of a Paladin coming to grips with the chaos that is Aetheria - maybe rp it a bit in there with some tales.

Re: Attitude adjustment.
I am sorry does anywhere in my profile say i am to be called Jean?
And yes i agree, posting about killing a guild that doesnt exsist anymore, another complaining about getting pk'ed, and this, blaming bio-ware for his lack of knowledge is much more intelligent.
But please continue to pander to ignorance. Its seems a popular thing to do.

Look, you can criticize my threads but they won't interfere with your gameplay experiences; that is why I'm putting my frustrations here. And if you read the first post you will see that all future rants will go here.
This game upsets me badly and often. And I'm not "ignorant" of this game, I just haven't been playing DnD since I was 10 years old and I'm used to games that explain the rules beforehand and in a non-cryptic manner.
I mean really. " (ie.) 20/- damage resistance?" Why not just put a percentage? Why use some ridiculous, non-layman conversion? How is an average person supposed to have any idea what this means? Most "complex" games are simple enough that a person of average intelligence can "pick things up" as he goes along. On this game, you have to go out of your way to learn about it, and that knocks it down quite a few points in my book.
I was able to play and understand Magic the Gathering as a young kid, but this game takes the cake. There are so many things you will never figure out other than through trial and error (which is the worst kind of gaming, imo). The only way to know half of this stuff is to literally spend weeks reading and studying a game manual that is hundreds of pages long, or to get humiliatingly crushed by people who think that you should be ashamed of yourself because you're trying to have some fun and you decided not to spend your entire life with your nose in a book.

Re: Attitude adjustment.
You know there are wiki's right? You dont need to spend hours reading the manual, everything is right there.
Tho reading the manual is so fun anyway, i dunno why you'd not want to do it

NWN is not to be understood by just anyone. Why use some ridiculous, non-layman conversion? How is an average person supposed to have any idea what this means?

Re: Attitude adjustment.
That's exactly the appeal to me. There are still classes I've still never fully learned. It took me over a year to learn "everything" Cleric... and its still changing *eyes shift back and forth in search of nerf sticks*Ade wrote: I mean really. " (ie.) 20/- damage resistance?" 20/- dmg means -20 dmg? and there are percentage factors aswell? Look at yer Gear Ade! Ask someone?
Its a complex game of many mechanics and strategi . Every Character you build is a whole new ball game of play style and gear effectiveness.
Albiet there are some of us who spend "way" to much time playing this game and know ALOT but hardly any of us know it all.
It's a world of magic and mystery hehe. Anything easy isnt worth anyones time.

Re: Attitude adjustment.
the complexity of this game is definitely part of the draw. if you dont enjoy researching builds, setting up spreadsheets, and searching the entire mod for glorious bits of equipment then this may not be a good fit for your gametime.
DnD is definitely complicated, and nwn makes it more so (just look at how many hidden engine caps you have to watch out for!)
but i definitely feel your pain as i've been through that stage of grief myself. when i first started here my first toon got insta imploded during every raid. so i raged a bit, and came back with a protection from spells from a friend. Yes! now i could thrash that guy. then i got stunning fisted to death by another dude. well then i came back with a pale master with spellcraft and protection from spells.
then i got beat to death by folks with 9 kamas per round... so i came back with a pale master with spellcraft and protection from spells and damage resistance feats. but a pure paladin came along and wrecked that build too. but it was ok, because i wrecked all his friends
the winning tactic there was to ask all MY friends to take out that pure pally first please.
at each point i learned something new. while i am now able to make pretty survivable characters the most important thing i learned is to accept that there are counterbuilds that will ruin just about any build i make. avoid those in combat and ask your party mates to cover for you. there are millions of build possibilities and its simply impossible to have them all be balanced against each other.
it also helps to have a set of toons you can play that have different strengths.. once you have a good core you can play them like your Magic cards: pick the right one for a given situation. it makes pvp a bit of a chess match.

Re: Attitude adjustment.
Magic: The Gathering I think is much more cryptic than D&D. Mainly if its open-deck (ie from any set) that allows you to match so many different crazy cards its unreal. And its all in the wording!!!

talk to me when you've taken a 2250 smite evil, my dwarven defender copped one of those in celestia, now that was humiliating overkill, and hilarious

The truth is just an excuse for those with a lack of imagination.
