One of my earliest experiences on NS4 many years ago was my lowbie hunting in the Plains of Angmar when MA and PM's were not fashionable.
It was very late and I was getting to that delirious state when I should have been sleeping but couldn't shake my next xp hit (guess that's why I am still here!).
Any ways, I roamed around the large maps heading to the Wastes and come across a wall of stones. I thought myself "Hmm.. this wasn't here before. I then spotted one of those "fear aura rings" at the edge of my then 17" monitor and then the white dragon who owned it. Yes indeed. I said nah that's not a dragon it must be a high-level shifter so I ran as you do when your a lowbie MA char lol! Then it spoke to me and said Run little one! (which of course I was already well on the way to do)
I was a 4th Bard and somehow my Will save kept me from running from the fear as it chased me so I thought let's have at it so I started to wail upon it! Yes I'm telling the tale. I realised soon it wasn't a uber Ancient Dragon but a Young Dragon. I used all my heal-kits and what potions I had just to stay alive and then noticed just as I was at death's door I was getting healed.
I then realised a DM was having some interactive fun with me. I eventually slew the dragon and picked up some very nice xp.
The moral:
Many of us do get attached to character's since this server is not a 1-40 in a day PW. So the time invested makes us a little sensitive. I could have cried foul on shout and said why pick on me? It is obvious in this case it was DM intervention and not as in the original poster's comments what appears to be a glitch.
I have had a glitch happen to me when a gorgon cast stone skin, drank a ptn of ethereal visage and haste and attacked me and another player when we had just hit 5th level. Needless to say we died rather quickly. I thought it too then that a DM was having fun at my expense but now I see it both ways.
Would we rather have no DM involvement, no events, no assistance to help us out of sticky situations (lost factions) or when we die on screen transitions or do we accept there are different types of DMs those that play with us like the "ants to gods" or as benevolent beings. It takes all types. I prefer the latter (DM Intervention)
Dm's fully healing your opponents
when in knolls a flamedancer will heal another flamedancer. they have 2 or 3 full heals among many other minor heal spells. mystics can heal aswell. so you need to see what else is around cause if your fighting 5 flamsdancers they will heal each other.

As long as players remember that DM's are the gods of this realm and will act the way they do, whether it be benevolent or capricious, they will do fine. I can't tell you how many times I have been healed, raised, killed and transported by Tep, TGPO or Chase. Yes it can be irritating but, it also gives NS4 the edge over other servers. You just have to stick it out and see what happens. Sometimes you get the bear and other times the bear gets you. And thats what makes this server great. You haven't lived until Chase pops 20 giants and turns your armor pink on the mountain.
