First let me start off by saying this. This is in response to the locking of ATI's grievance thread. I think it was good to lock it because it was starting to turn into nothing but a pointless argument despite the thoughtfulness of some of the posters. I do not want the debate to resume. I think it is pointless for players to debate this. But this is a public issue that has ramifications for a large proportion of the player base, and I am asking one of the devs if they would please take a few minutes out of their busy lives/developing to post their stance, thoughts on the matter, or opinion. That is all. Thanks.
PS: if the next person with the power who reads this wants to lock it that would probably be for the best because then I think devs and DMs can still post but it can't turn into a flame war that way

Here's a rewording of what I already said on the DM forums regarding the Okies:
I'm very concerned by the impression players are getting that Okies are a "sanctioned" guild or in some way supported by the DMs or Developers. Just to be clear: They're not, and never have been. Players who toss around ideas like "Okies receive special treatment" or "the rules don't apply to Okies" simply have no idea what they're talking about.
I think the main issue is that the Okies, by virtue of being an organized group with a name, open themselves up to easy labelling and stereotyping, sometimes unfairly so. This is the fault of those doing the stereotyping, and the lynch-mob mentality that sometimes seizes the player base of an online game in situations like this is not something we as DMs are going to be responsive to.
Compound this with the state of the module being an open beta, and the new direction of DMs as "deities" who guide indirectly and rarely make physical appearances, and it can lead to the impression that the DMs are simply not doing anything. This is not the case. Players are simply not aware of the actions taken by the DMs any more than Achilles was about the actions of Zeus and Athena.
Right now, we would hope that the players would band together and help each other out, and ask that every small grievance not be turned into a massive protest demanding DM intervention. If a pattern of destructive and unacceptable behavior from a SINGLE player begins to emerge, THEN the Gods will step in and take action. However, we simply can't be everywhere at once, nor will we resort to punishing and entire group of people for the actions of individuals.
NS4 can be a dangerous place, and we'll do our best to make it fun and enjoyable, but we simply don't have the resources to act as an ever-vigilant police force. I think the NS4 player base is smart and resourceful enough to be able to handle their own problems, and if things get too out of hand, you can bet we'll step in. Until then, try not to make everything into a world-ending apocalyptic catastrophe.
stereotypes are typically and usually come from a person's/group's past doings that puts them into a place that defines them what they did in the past.
it is something that would define it and to label it as to who the person or group is.
no offense to anyone but i am sure people have derive what they think about okies from the past and present. from what okies had done. and from what people here about them. you really can't take them out unless and only unless the person would actually see something different from that person/group, in this case, the okies. otherwise, that stereotype will be affirmed and reaffirmed in the process and in turn transmits this to other players. thus, how we label and think of okies is born.
you can't blame the players for this because naturally it was not them who made the first move.
and you can't blame the okies too since that is who they are. can't help it. =P
ok i just read the grievances ...
all i can say is tough luck
and good thing its just beta =D
hehe pls dont flame me.
this is an opinion from someone who does not play the beta but bases my thoughts on the written rule...
thank you Joran. i think that was what all the players who have been frustrated with the okies needed to hear. a positive affirmation that the devs will act fairly and justly with all individual players. hopefully this will cool some tempers.

okies can only successfully kill lower level players, there's no 'elite' about them.
so, if you see one, and they're rated impossible, just run away (or run in circles if it's a fighter, lol they'll give up)
if you're same level, then fight them, you'll likely win.
if you're a higher lvl, then just kill them with no remorse. they'd do the same to you.
if they're grieving you, (ie, killing you repeatedly in the span of say 30mins or so), then log off and pm a DM or dev. i've seen people bitching in-game on and on, and it's really annoying (they get into cuss fights with the okies on shout and it just keeps going back and forth. dms shoulda ban both parties for that behaviour if they were on :/)
haha ive partied with many an okie, and even been tempted by them to kill other players just for being in an area we were leveling in
but I restrained myself and held to my chaotic good ways.
the way I see it, if I make freinds with okies now, theres less of a chance of them trying to kill me later. maybe Ill even come visit the okie zoo.....
Eagles may soar, but weasles don't get sucked into jet engines.
Joran, I don't know if you were aware of this, but in NS3 South, where the okies originated, they WERE a DM "sanctioned" guild that's sole purpose was to run around randomly PKing people "to add an element of chaos and keep things interesting" and they get this reputation, or steriotype as you put it, from their own behavior. One man can only judge another by his actions. The problm is, the okies were fun back when the rules said they had to rez you within two minutes of killing you... but now they're just a pain in the [censored], a constant annoyance at the worst moments, popping up, killing you and negating the likely half hour you just spent traveling to where you are and completely wasting your time.
