Reduced Damage AND no stacking? or?

Why reduce the spells damage when they are being set to not co-affect the caster? Or is the damage reduced only until they no longer co-affect the caster?

The non stack rule is silly to me since acid sheath, elemental shield and death armor are all different spells.
I think its better to set the damage lower rather then prevent stacking.
And acid sheath really doesnt deal that much damage, but well seeing as the resists that are currently in...*sighs*
