game goes down all the time?
While I play the game goes down all the time? I can still move around but there is no data being sent to the server, and everything is frozen. Why is this happening?

Bioware knows dick about netcode and coding games for network play perhaps?...
Try using a wireless connection that sits at around 60% signal strength and see how much lag you get... It's pathetic while playing NWN.
I can play Desert Combat fine, but as soon as I switch over to NWN it turns to [censored]. Especially when porting to other servers.
Another thing I notice with my wireless connection (wireless as in, between my router, that is hooked up to my cable modem, and my computer.) is that when I start the gamespy client and try to ping all the servers, they all show up as red with pings over 1000 on every server, yet when I get into a game my ping goes to it's normal amount ~60-130.

Can't complain that much--NWN sends a lot more data than an FPS game for example (though some design compromises for sure).
Regardless, check to see that the lag is really server lag--run the game at low video settings and try to avoid having too much on the screen (especially other players). Work your way up from there...mid range anti-alias and creature detail with a lot of dynamic lights and shadows are probably the biggest causes of client lag. If things aren't groovy with all the bells, ask around here or the Bio peer to peer tech forum.
I'm not really the one to talk about UDP v. other transmission protocols here, remember when the game was designed, broadband was hardly that common (ISDN was the best you could do in most areas).
Oh and don't trust Gamespy ping, lol.
