CEP + Cloaks

Post by Tibbie »

Is there plan to incorporated CEP? I am mostly interested in using cloaks (capes). I think they are very cool for RP purposes.

NS4 probably won't include any Hak Paks, so that anyone can just log and play.

It is a long and arduous process including the CEP to a large module. Although it would be cool, it would also be a large pain.

The Devs have stated elsewhere that they will not be incorporating anything into NS4 that would require a player to install a hak pack. No matter HOW cool it looks :)

I think one of the better ideas a dev posted earlier on nwvault is using different servers. Some would use NWN, others could use the expansions, and a few others could have hakpaks included. This way everyone can play the game, even if they can't dl the hak, but if they have the ability to do so(cable or dsl, or t#, or isdn) then people can still benefit from the great additons.

As ns4 has already implemented this, i don't think it'd be hard to add this feature. This way the underdark can have illithid and beholder areas, and other areas can have deserts with hak pak monsters included.

but that means players without the hak packs are limited to certain areas of the world. and how many servers are you talking about with all these others and others? there are only 4 at the moment and the planar areas make 5.

hmmm... why not make the planes require the cep or something like it? It'll make it more interesting, and should give ppl incentive to spend some time on downloads to play.

but that is going to limit the player base for the planar regions by punishing the people who don't want to or don't have the connection to download a huge file just for the right to play.

CEP is something like 130 megs. Took a few mins on cable. Should take a night on 56k, which isn't anything killer.

And the point i'm trying to make is that we can have a playable version for everyone, one possibly with the four main zones where a lot of pvp sieging will take place, and one in the planes where more interesting adventures will be. I honestly don't think it's asking too much to have someone dl a file overnight while they're sleeping, or for a few mins while they're playing a game. So ppl aren't losing anything but maybe 130meg of space on their hd and we gain a more interesting and better looking area, with things like capes, horses, and placeables. Not to mention custom mobs.

To use CEP, we'd have to at least throw out the scripting and redistribute it (hak scripts are higher priority than module  ).

Though the Ithillid models included are the best creatures I've seen in NWN by far (done by BatInTheHat who I think is in CODI--very creepy and the movement animations are awesome), there's not that much that adds anything new to the game. CEP is eye candy (which you can't have enough of), but it's only eye candy.

I don't see how we'd have to throw out the coding done so far. Just delete theirs real quick and put up a modified version.

And that's why I said it would be nice, but it is a MAJOR pain in the [censored] for developers to implement. Granted the Illithids, beholders, and new elementals are all top notch....
