I have heard that subrace bonuses wont allow you to cast higher level spells or take feats. But will they disallow you to take feats? I was thinking of making a fighter/wm but will the -2 dex from the earth genasi prevent me from taking whirlwind?
Also, what exactly does the level adjustment on a subrace do?

1) The subrace stat adjustment acts exactly as if you had items on with the proper adjustments (this is relative to the stat adjustments of the base class). At this time it's the only way to do it. Later on they may act as permanent base changes, but not now.
