Is there any point in increasing your perform skill with items? This is assuming that your skill is high enough for the corresponding bardsong for your level. As I understand it your base perform skill is what is considered for your bardsong anyways.

no, your final perform skill is what counts for bard song:

ranks in perform + CHA mod + any skill focus:perform + item boosts

Thank you for that info, but I have a follow up question:
From my understanding each bardsong upgrade has a perform AND level requirement. So in that case are there any advantages to having a higher perform that the required for your current level bardsong? The manual and in game description is very vague.

no, its a case of pass/fail... you need at least x perform at y level or your song wont improve. you dont get anything extra from excess in either.

Thank you, that answered my question. It's something important to keep in mind when spending skills points on Perform when multiclassing and considering what items to use. No reason to waste items slots or skill points.
