Hostile to animals?

One of my TC characters (Barak) is now hostile to most of the animals...bears, jags, etc. I'm not quite sure what caused it--maybe hitting back when I had a critical failure when animal empathy ran out at a bad time and a bear started attacking party members.

Is there any way to return myself to a status of peace with nature? DM intervention? A quest, maybe...?

killing an animal by accident will turn them hostile to you. also some animals can be hostile to you but still turn other animals hostile to you if you kill them (mirk worgs used to be like this, i've a suspicion pack leaders may still be).

On a slightly related note: Why are dire bears and ancient dire bears not considered animals for the use of animal empathy, but still friendly to TC members?

they are technically outsiders. this question does beg another....are the mastiffs in shadow plane able to be gotten with animal empathy? i will have to check

That would make animal-empathy useful past level 10.

Shadow mastiffs are normally outsiders as well, so the epic ones probably can't be empathied.

I posted a complete list of creatures that can be empathied on the wiki a while back.
