Hipsing????

Post by Trogdorbob »

As I like to say " never a dull moment when you could be learning something" so to that I ask, " What is a 'hipsing' character?"

Means you hide while being observed. Currently an ability only given on the first lvl of Shadowdancer. Signs of possible implementation in assasin class in the future as well.

It sounds fun at first.

But the game is better without it.

This might be in previous posts and/or on the wiki, but its easier to respond rather than dig up old links :P....by the way the search feature above is your friend. ..anyway to awnser your question:

HIPS stands for Hide in Plain sight ...it is a SD (shadowdancer) ability where a character can literally hide from other players and monsters (PC's and NPC's) unless you have a high spot check to counter their hide abilities.

Often when people complain about HIPS'ers they are refered to as "cheese builds" because to get SD you have to multiclass, and often it is the minimal levels allowed of SD with the rest focused in another class.... Common examples would be --

monk/rouge/SD

or any mixmatch of that... monk/SD or rouge/SD ... you even see the infamous "cheese mages" that are Wizard/SD usually.....

Thanks for the replies and I did do the search and I found out how to stopa hips toon but I still never really got to see the definition of what one is. SO thanks to you guys for answering the post I know what it is. Your are right king.. it is easier to post than to scrounge for the answer though there is some satisfaction in getting your own answers. MMMMMM coffeeeeeeeeee. :D

cheese mages r people too...having played one for awhile and had alot of fun with it i found it made lvling preepic much easier evasion with a wizard is very nice... however i decided to ditch the toon in the 30s because DC on spells were not sufficient BTW only been playing NWN for about 3 months used to play pen and paper back in the 2nd edition days... so for me the cheese mage was fun untill i realized he was too weak<(being able to only take one lvl of SD wouldve helped) but i enjoy the lvl requirements of this server> anyhow just my 1.5 cents sorry for the runon sentences..bad habit of mine..
BTW love this server except for the fact i can accomplish nothing with myself except playing NS4 but thats ok for now:)

Does True Seeing allow you to see HIPSing characters, or has that been adapted? I've just started using it with my cleric, so I haven't seen for myself yet.

Oh, and...Hi...
