If i'm not mistaken, this is like the 2nd time that has happened?
Why are these powersupplies dieing? I've been using my supplies for YEEEEARS and they never die (well, the one in my ibm 386 died last month)
"The power supply in the main box just failed."

my god, more dead power supplies?
DD, seriously dude, ditch your current hardware provider.
Hostname: glup - OS: NetBSD 1.6.2/i386 - CPU: Intel Pentium (P54C) (586-class), 150.01 MHz - Processes: 31 - Uptime: 42d 8h 31m - Load Average: 0.21 - Memory Usage: 13.76MB/31.62MB (43.52%) - Disk Usage: 1.01GB/1.10GB (91.87%) - rtk0 Traffic (rtk0): 316.91MB In/414.94MB Out
It's powersupply is generic, cheap, and old. its still humming away just fine. It's not on a UPS ether. When the power surges or goes out, that box gets hit, and usualy reboots. But thats it.
And yes, it actualy does stuff... alot more then you would expect! That 150mhz box sits at 100% usage every night for 6 hours straight as it processes irc logs (pisg) and cs/tfc/dod logs (psychostats)
it runs irssi (irc client), 3 eggdrops (irc bots), httpd, sshd, mysqld, proftpd,
Are you sure you are buying supplies that are powerfull enough? maybe try using two PSUs in each box to reduce the workload of each unit
I've had alot of computers in my time, and i've only had one PSU die on me, and that was one i got for free from some guy that was going to junk his case+psu (I'll take any old computer case, the metal parts inside are great for making server racks)

I've said it before. Go with an Enermax or Antec psu and you won't be getting burnt out gear.
I have a 350W Enermax right now, and my PC is ALWAYS on running with the CPU at max load (Somehow I don't think NWN runs cpu at max ALL the time...), and I haven't had a single PSU problem since I got it.
(I run cpu at max 24/7 using Folding@Home, google it if you want to donate)

Yeah, I've got an Antec 1080AMG with Antec Truepower 430W PSU. Been running for years with that box. And I'm at 100% usage on the CPU as well doing United Devices cancer research. Well, except for when I dual-boot over to my gentoo linux installation.JesterOI wrote:I've said it before. Go with an Enermax or Antec psu and you won't be getting burnt out gear.

Well I figured this would be the place to post it. I actually have a new power supply sitting in the box. Its generic (at work so don’t have the name handy) but it’s a 430w. I checked the donation page but no valid emails and really no info there at all (not to be mean but I would think the donation page would be the first thing up and running). Since I have no plans in immediate future to use it I thought to offer it up to the cause.
Feel free to send me a PM if it will help.
Since I’m so generous today I’ll send it for free
